My item is 31"x28"x12"- Can't be disassembled. So far I have tried-
  • ups
  • ups store
  • office depot and staples
  • a moving and storage company
  • Sam's club
  • Kinkos
any suggestions appreciated!

Try your local BK or McDonalds. Ask them for an empty box that their cups come in. I would call first and talk with a manager.
It can't hurt to try and they should be free too.

thanks- i will try that- also I know I can go to Mailboxes etc and they say they can package any item. I think that will cost a bundle though.

When I have really big or odd sized large items, I usually make my own box--it's much cheaper. Most appliance stores will gladly give you washer/dryer/refridgerator boxes. You can also buy very large sheets of cardboard from places like Mailboxes, etc... Once you have the cardboard, get out your ruler and cutter and get to work. It's really not hard at all and you will save so much $$$ on having someone else package it for you!

I know you said you tried a moving and storage company, but just in case it was something different I was going to suggest U-Haul. They sell boxes and are fairly reasonable if I remember right. Ryder does also.

You can also try a furniture store. They'll have big boxes that you are customize and they will probably have that nice lightweight packing foam to protect the contents.

That sounds like the size of a Little Tikes item I sold a while back. I bought a couple of the largest size boxes from Office Depot and made my own box. It looked a mess, but it served it's purpose :D

Thanks- I am in process of making my own box now. It looks like fedex is going to be the cheapest for shipping oversized items- anybody know if that's right?

Yup, Fedex ground is the cheapest.

Do you have any Asian food stores around you? The really ethnic kind? Call and ask if they sell "travel boxes". These are the size of a large suitcase (max airline dimensions---sounds similar to the size you described). Asians use them for travelling overseas. The boxes themselves are very reasonably priced.

Thanks for the tip. I will remember that in the future but for now- I have just about completed my masterpiece - it looks like something that belongs in a dumpster! LOL. I think it is sturdy though. Thanks everyone!
I'm losing money on shipping on this deal. I used the shipping calculator on my auction and it came out ridiculously low. It is because I made a mistake and called it a large package instead of oversized. :( Live and learn I guess.

UGH! i hate when this happens! I was going to suggest Staples stores have boxes from their office furniture that they may not need. Also, wasn't mailbox, etc. bought out by UPS store?
