Eating on the cheap!

I know everyone says the biggest expense at DLP is food, so can anyone recommend any good cheap places to eat - burgers, pizzas etc is just fine for us for 5 days! We are staying at DLH and will be filling up to the brim with a hot breakfast :), so I reckon we'll be alright to have fast food for whenever we're hungry rather than booking full restaurant meals. We will visit McDonald's or Earl of Sandwich in the Village, but would love some recommendations for places in the parks.

We will however do one character meal, and am I right in thinking Cafe Mickey is the only place that does these now? My son would so love the Cowboy Cookout but there was no option for that on our booking for next February :confused3

And are hot drinks available all over? - we love hot chocolate when we're cold (and we probably will be in February :rotfl2:) so would love to know where to go to get these - alternatively I'll take some with me and we'll pop back to the room to warm up!

Thank you for reading!

I'm probably the only one but I love the burgers in cafe Hyperion(sp?) in discovery land,
Caseys corner (hotdogs) is another favourite,
There's a place on main street can't think if the name that does really nice croque Monsieur too,
And we liked colonel haitis for pizza,

We're planning to eat at Annette's most evening because we love it and the food is really good for pretty cheap by dlp standards!

We live on churros and hot chocolate for snacks in winter lol,

We really liked cowboy cookout but when we went last time it wasn't a character place, the food was nice x

Annette's is very good value: Big plates for a rather normal price.
We like Buzz Pizza Planet too, I believe it's about 18€ an adult, kids are less for cold drinks, pizza and pasta (buffet), salad bar and dessert buffet as much as you want. It's perfect for a late lunch if you don't want to eat "big" during the evening. It's only open until 3 or 4 PM tough. And it has a playground for kids to keep them occupied while you can make sure you eat what you paid for. :rotfl:

I was also going to suggest Pizza Planet and Anettes. The all you can eat buffets are great value especailly if you eat before 2pm dinner time prices. Another on my list is restaurant de stars in Studios this includes drinks too

Another vote for Annettes - the 18 euro menu is really good, lots for food for a reasonable price. It also does a lovely sounding American breakfast that is served until 1pm which I definitely want to check out when we go.

Depending on how big your appetite is you might be able to get away with ordering a kids meal at the counter service places, particularly if you're planning on doing a table meal that day as well. I liked Cafe Hyperion as they show cartoons there and because there's tons of room you can eat at your own pace without feeling like you're taking up a space someone else could use. Hakuna Matata was lovely and the rice made a nice break from chips!

Remember to check the back of your receipt after paying for food - last year they had a voucher for a free hot drink later in the day, which was very welcome in November!

We're planning to go to pizza planet this trip too, not been since about 2005 and they still did the pizza burgers then lol!

Toad Hall in Fantasyland gets my vote for fish and chips from about €10 - 12. They also do an adults chicken burger meal.

We loved Cowboy Cookout before it was a character meal, had lovely ribs and sausages.

In the studios Cafe en Coulisse did fab burgers.
Also the Blockbuster Cafe in the studios is a canteen type set up where you pick what you want dependant on the meal type you buy. The croques here are yummy too.

Check your receipts after making purchases for the free hot drinks which are redeemable between given times at listed outlets.

Top 3 fast food for me in the park would be
Colonel Hathi's - pizza and pasta
Fuente del oro - fajitas and the churros are to die for
Hakuna matata - spicy chicken and rice

@ WDS I love Restaurant des Stars, not sure if that's still its' name, the Ratatouille one, all you can eat buffet and includes coffee

Disney Village - Annette's, mcD's are best value for money and there's usually a van there in the evening that sells takeaway fries and hotdogs.

Thank you so much for all the replies :)

I have started a little notebook ready for my trip (gotta be organised!) and all your recommendations are duly noted!

We went to Cowboy cookout for character lunch and it was great. Must do on my list.

Though a little more expensive, I think that the buffets at Agrabah Cafe and Plaza Gardens are quite good value if you want a change from fast food.

Thanks for the recommendations Becky - I've added them to my notebook! :)

And thankyou Isila, we will definitely do the Cowboy Cookout if it's still happening next Feb!

theres a website called dlrpmagic.com where you can view all the resteraunt menus and prices x

Fuente del oro and Hakuna Matata get my vote... really hoping these are both open on my next trip, the counter service restaurants can be so unpredictable with their opening!
