Eating Off Site?

This will be our first trip to Disney and I was wondering how far a drive it is to go off site for maybe a cheap breakfast or dinner? Do any restaurants deliver to the on-site resorts?

One more questions, how big are the room fridges? Big enough for a gallon of milk and some beer? :sunny:

There are several restaurants at the Crossroads which is just off WDW property. They include McDonalds, Perkins, Pizza Uno, TGIFridays, Quiznos, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Subway, IHOP, Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill (those are the only ones that come to mind, but I know there are more). Please understand that these restaurants are sill near Disney, thus you will pay more than you would if you were home.

Not necessarily with the cost issue. The Bahama Breeze near me and the Bahama Breeze in Orlando have the same prices. Subway is also priced the same.

I'm sure it varies depending on where you live. Other locations for these restaurants that I visit in the Orlando area are cheaper than those near Disney property, but it wouldn't be worth the long drive for someone to get to them who is staying on site.

The refrigerators in the rooms of the WDW resorts are the dorm-size, counter top models. Unless you use a lot of milk in one day, I would go with 1/2 gallon milk if you want anything else to fit in it. You may find it's big enough for the larger bottle and restock with that.

Okay! So where is this Crossroads, and how do I get there from say Boardwalk or Old Key West? This sounds like a place I really need to know how to get to.

Still discovering my way around the Disney/Orlando area. Fun isn't it?

Thanks

If I remember correctly It is neer the exit of WDW neer Downtown Disney. If you follow the markers to DTD and pass it you should end up at the crossroads.

I've stayed on-site and off-site for meals. My opinion is that if you're staying on-site, it is much more convenient to eat on-site. You're going to burn a minimum of 30 mins. driving to/from an off-site restaurant (even a close one) and that doesn't include any wait. Some days on our last visit, it took us an hour just driving to/from restaurants by the time you include getting lost.

If you're looking for a less expensive option for breakfast then I recommend hitting one of the counter-service places at your hotel; grabbing a muffin and juice at the Main Street Bakery in MK; and/or eating a breakfast of fruit, breakfast bars and milk/juice in your room while you get showered and dressed.

Before we had kids, we often ate less expensive by having one large late lunch/early dinner and then just grabbing a snack toward dinner time. You can find out what time the restaurants switch over to dinner prices and go right before that time.

You will not find any off-site restaurants that are "on the way to the park" when you are staying on-site. But if you're going to/from somewhere off-site, then I have nothing against eating offsite. There is a little mall down by the Downtown Disney hotels -- don't know the name of the mall, but the restaurants were good (Perkins was one, I think) and also ate a nice meal at Macaroni Grill which was much further away.

I hope this helps!

The area she's referring to is The Crossroads. To get there pass DTD as if you were leaving Disney property. You will pass a number of large hotels and go through a couple of lights. You will come to a large intersection. If you were to turn right, you'd see I-4. Directly in front of you at the intersection, you will see a big sign that says The Crossroads. Many of the restaurants are there. If you turn left at the light, you will see The Olive Garden, Black Angus and Pizza Hut on the right. If you go a little further, you will see Macaroni Grill and Joe's Crabshack. A little further up on the right is a Tony Roma's barbecue.

In addition, Goodings grocery store is at The Crossroads. It is very high priced. If you go left at the light, a few blocks up on the right is a Winn Dixie. Much cheaper.

Sorry, I don't pay attention to road names.

I had to go off site for gasoline. We were returning our rental car to DTD and I forgot to fill it up - so I left the kids and DH there, went off-site for gas - well after being on-site for 1 week, this was my first brush w/ reality and I really didn't care for it. I told DH that I never want to do that again, (meaning leave Disney Property while still on vacation). Its not a good feeling.

We stay on site every year and eat off site often. The directions to Crossroads is correct. If you take the left at the light there is also a Sizzler's just past Olive Garden on the right. Sizzler's is an all you can eat. We go there for breakfast, fill up and then we go back to the hotel, drop the car and go to the park. Having a big breakfast allows us to skip lunch and have an early dinner. Again, someone was right in saying that Gooding's is over prices. We usually go to Walmart. If you come to the Crossroads take a right. Continue until you can't go any further, take a left. On that road there is a Target, Sam's and further down is Walmart (Walmart is open 24/7). We have found some nice little no name restaurants on that road.
