I'm sure it's been asked, but after spending 30 minutes trying to search for an answer, I'm just going to have to ask it again! :)

Not using the dining plan...
Can anyone eat off of the childrens menu at a TS restaurant and will it be charged as the childrens price?

DD will be 11 and she won't eat most of the things on the adult menu. I also have a DMOL and DGMOL who are also very picky eaters and very ....."thrifty" when it comes to food. ;)

Thanks for your replies!

I think your 11 y/o will be fine ordering off the kids menus at TS restaurants. The others can order kids meals but will most likely be charged a lot more for the same meal. So throw thrifty out the window!

My family of adults often eats off the kids menus at kid prices. As far as I know it's not an issue.

:)

It depends on the table service resturant if you are an adult ordering from the kids menu. The Plaza refused to sell me a jr. chef salad. I took the regular one, but it was a waste of money for us. I don't think you will have any problems with young teens ordering from the kids menu.
At Artist Pointe they sold me a half portion of the adult salmon for $10 off. I guess you just have to ask at each restaurant.
Since we are seniors (and not young teens), we are better off sharing a full adult meal... We just got back last week and we spread out 4 nights of TS to eat at 6 restaurants. We had no problems sharing at Rose & Crown, Coral Seas and Chef de France.

My DS and I have ordered off the kids menu at 50's Prime Time and Liberty Tree Tavern with no problems. We didn't have to pay adult prices or anything. Just asked for kids menu's when they were passing out menu's, and trust me, we are not even close to being in the kid age bracket :thumbsup2

I have to ask - What does DMOL and DGMOL mean??? :confused3

To reply to the OP's question: When my DS17 was younger (but older than the age stated on the child's menu), he never had a problem ordering something from the children's menu. A few times I offered to pay an adult fare, just as long as my DS could order something that he liked; but none of the TS restaurants ever charged us more than the child's price.

Having said that, when my DH want to order an appetizer, entree, and dessert, we will often share each of them while at a TS restaurant, and we've never had a problem doing that. Ordering your own appetizer, entree, and dessert is just way too much food. lol

Great tip. This will probably be the best best for my MIL and GMIL

These were a couple of the restaurants I was thinking about taking them to. Thanks!

I'm just a dumb-dumb :lmao: MIL (mother in law) and GMIL (grandmother in law) is what I meant:rotfl:
That's what I get for trying to DIS and cook dinner at the same time! ;)

Thanks for all your help! This helps a ton in my planning. I know that one of the things that my MIL will flip about is the $$$ of the food! Thought I just better have a plan of attack to start with!

Thank you, SeaSpray,
that was my question, too. Glad to know it was a typo and not a mother outlaw! :lmao:

While ordering off of the kids menu is possible in most places, I hope the OP takes a look at the kids menu first. We just returned and my 3 yo granddaughter had no problem eating the entire meal by herself. The choices are the same everywhere. Everyday she had a cup of chicken noodle soup, a small cheese pizza, and a scoop of ice cream. Each day, a different restraurant, but same menu over and over again for 10 days (1 yo sister often got the bowl of mac and cheese or pasta and sauce). As for CS, 4 nugget and a couple of fries and some grapes. She had no problem goobling that down either. Back in the olden days you could get some decent kids choices, but I've not seen any lately.

Thanks! I will look at that too. I just know that at some of the restaurants DD wouldn't even consider some of the adult items. I am printing out all the menus to the restaurants we are considering a) to budget and b) to see what she might eat. I think at some places we could share a dinner and be fine too. Plus, there are always snacks along they way! I love snacks!:goodvibes

I know I'll probably get unhappy responses to this, but...

Keep in mind that you will be holding up a 4 top table with 2 adults and 1 child ordering off the kid's menu. While this might be thrifty for you, if people start doing this it could result in major money issues for the wait staff, who depend on a certain size bill and therefore tip. Just my 2 cents.

Just act nice, they'll bring you a plate, no need to use the menu!

Sorry, I have nothing of value to add I just couldn't pass that one up! Hope it at least made you chuckle!

What about counter service? would I be able to eat off the child's menu there? I usually can't eat the whole thing if I order of the adults menu...plus I'm pickier than most children I know. ;)

Sometimes I have ordered kids menu for lunch because I'm either not liking what the other option is or want to eat a smaller portion and save room for snacks and big dinner. This usually isn't a problem either.

In the past I have gone up and ordered all three of our meals by myself at a CS. I doubt they would ever say anything, especially at the CS restaurant. They wouldn't know if you were ordering for you or for a kid waiting for you somewhere.

I almost have the reverse problem, my almost 8 yr old would rather eat salmon, pork chops, steak tips...that sort of thing versus mac n cheese, chicken nuggets. What we normally do if we all go out to eat together (in laws included) is she'll eat off everyone else's plate, and usually 1/2 of mine because even at a normal restaurant a serving is too much food for me.

She'll be fine eating off the children's menu. Just about anyone can order from the children's menu at TS (and CS) locations.
