We are off to a 2BR in OKW for the first time next week and are considering the kitchen/meal issue.

How many of you actually have actually cooked & ate in your rooms?

Where have you purchased groceries from? I know Disney will do it for a fee (basics only, and a limited selection at that) and I have also seen an Ad on the DISBoards site for GardenGrocer (dot com) but I believe you have to be in your room for delivery from them (where Disney puts groceries in your unit).

Where have you got your groceries for your Disney unit? We do want to stock up on bottled water and would like some beer, so shopping for ourselves may be the only way to go for us......YUCK......

Is there a convenient Grocery store very near WDW? We have a rental car but don't really want to waste valuable Disney time shopping!!!!

We have stayed in a 1 and 2 bedroom villa and I used the kitchen for mostly breakfast and then an afternoon snack or lunch for my DS (4). I have bought eggs, beacon, those cinnamon buns in the Pilsbury cans, OJ, Milk, BEER, wine, those little oven pizzas for my son, uncrustables, chips, etc. Snack stuff.

We just shop at the Winn Dixie on Apopka-vinelan (sp). It is maybe 10 minutes from your resort. The best way to explain the location is to start from DTD and take the road that runs past all of the hotels like the Hilton, or Double Tree away from DTD. (I think the road is called Hotel Plaza Blvd.) Once you reach the light, there will be "The Crossings" in front of you. Hang a left. It is about 3 miles down on your right hand side.

I wish I could explain the location a bit better. But it is in the opposite the direction of I-4.
Anyway, there is also a Publix near the Prime Outlets you can use, however the Winn-Dixie is closer.

Hope this helped out!

We NEVER used the kitchen for dinner :stir: . Who wants to cook dinner at WDW with all of those glorious resturants!

We're DVC members and often stay in OKW 2 bedroom units. We cook all the time.

The Winn-Dixie is closest and is OK, but Publix is the far superior grocery store. Just stay away from Goodings.

Breakfast in the room saves a lot of time, and we often cook one or two dinners in, also, to save on expensive Disney meals. We often do bagged salads and steaks on the grill, with french bread. Or spaghetti.

We stayed in the FW cabins and had free dining so the kitchen didn't get used much. I did make spagetti one night, very easy! I went to Publix and got sauce, noodles and frozen meatballs and some garlic bread (as well as all the other things you need from the grocery store!) the kids loved it and it was nice to relax "at home." That way we used a TS for a character breakfast for the kids!

It is nice to have the kitchen even if you don't use it alot. It is there when you want it!
