I have never started a thread before hope I am doing it right and its in the right spot. I have a challenge. We are staying at the ASMu family suites and we plan on eating at least two time a day in the room and eating out once. They have a fridge and a microwave in the room. I was wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions on stuff we can fix to eat besides cereal and sandwiches. I am open to all suggestion even the creative ones. Remember a fridge and a microwave is all we will have. Oh yeah we are stopping at walmart our first night there and will be buying a cheap $10 toaster. Thank you.:stir:

I think it has a mug or glass - if not buy one at Walmart. You can then make eggs in the mug in the mircowave. bacon is easier just put it on paper towels.

Popcorn, look in the frozen foods there are several things there that you can mircowave.

at home I make up stuff - stew, meats & noodles, etc. freeze it solid - then pack in a ice chest (collapsible type) and take it along.

so when you cook - make it double and freeze the extra for your trip.

There would be nothing I would like better then homemade soup but we are flying from Kansas. I had to laugh when I read about the eggs and bacon because I told my dad he was going to have to eat oatmeal the whole time for breakfast. He said don't they have eggs and bacon at WDW. :rotfl2: I looked at the menu at the food court at the ASMu and no eggs just waffles with either sausage or bacon. I told him he could have breakfast with Cindy at the castle but he would have to pay for it and he said oatmeal is fine. But it looks like now he can have eggs.

There are definitely eggs at ASMu. They serve a breakfast platter that includes eggs and meat as well as omelets.

1) If you are stopping at Walmart, food choices are no problem.
. . . there are many frozen foods (just microwave)
. . . there are many dehydrated camping foods (just add hot water)
2) Just buy a cooler, as mentioned above for storage.

Do you have to supply all of your own paper/plastic/cleaning supplies in the Family Suites as well?
It sounds like you are renting a car. I haven't done the math, but maybe a Fort Wilderness Cabins with a food delivery would be cheaper. This way you would have a full size kitchen with dishes, pots and pans, cleaning supplies etc and a charcoal grill and picnic table. The cost of a grocery delivery is only a little more than $20 and you wouldn't need to rent a car - a big savings. You could also cook your more expensive evening meal this way.
Just a thought, as I said, I didn't do the math.
It is also more space, but only 1 bathroom. FW is wonderful!

I check on the pricing and it would just be cheaper if we ate out every meal then staying at the cabins but great idea. We are renting the car for our first few days there to to SeaWorld and my DD wants to see the ocean this time. She is 7 now so telling her the lake at POP is the ocean won't work this time.:confused3

Great pics Thank you!

If you are stopping at Walmart the choices are endles. Ravioli, spaghetti, the rice side dishes are almost all microwavable and they now have fully cooked chicken pieces in packets (refrigerated or not). You can cook up the rice in the micro and add the chicken pieces and have it like that or get wraps and have chicken/rice wraps (my family loves them).

There are so many pre-cooked items out there now. I think it's Country Crock that makes tubs of mashed potatoes or au gratin potatoes and all they need are heating up. Get a canned ham (fully cooked) and a can of veggies and you can have a "'real" meal, not just ravioli! I think that stuff is kept in the cooler meat section where keilbasa etc... is. Hey, keilbasa, another microwavable food! The list goes on!

Tell your dad they DO have eggs at ASMusic, quite good ones, too. I get the kid eggs when I'm there. Comes in a cute Mickey head shaped container with the eggs in the "head", sausage or bacon in one "ear" and applesauce in the other "ear". Yummy!

Awesome ideas I am writing them on my shopping list now. I have used the chicken on salads before but I had never thought to use it with rice. I will have to buy a big bowl. So worth it. :yay:

There are so many microwaveable foods today! Wal-Mart has a great selection, so it's good that you plan on stopping there. :)

Thanks for all the tips on the pre pakaged microwavable foods but what I would love to see is some recipies. Like because of the suggestions by PAT FAN I am going to take some pre cooked southwest chicken with some Lipton Spanish rice, fiesta corn and shredded cheese. I think the cost of that will be about $10 bucks if we went out to eat for my family of 5 we would spend about $40-$50. I don't think it would take but 20 minutes to put together also.

If you're in the mood for soup, I like the microwave in a bowl Campbells Minestrone soup. I get it a lot when I've booked at DVC studio (same kitchen facilities as the All Star Suite). I've also taken individual microwave pizzas, fixings for nachos, microwave sandwiches like Hot Pockets, and I just look around the frozen food section and the pre-packaged food section looking for microwaveable foods.

We started visiting the world when our son was 2 1/2...he's now 22 and have visited many, many times. We've ALWAYS had breakfast in the room. Always got a refrig. We usually go shopping at Publix. There are a few around however we always found ourselves going to the one near Mary Queen and the Premium Outlets. Even now that my husband/I go alone we still have breakfast in our room. We have always found it much more relaxing. Especially when our son was a little guy it was SO much easier.
