Eating Gluten Free in Disney

I'm curious about this, has anyone had good experiences dealing with Disney and gluten allergies? Are there restaurants to avoid? Gluten free menus? Thanks!

I found out I needed a gluten free diet 6 days prior to visiting WDW in December 2005. After checking a couple of websites I felt more comfortable, then when I went to every restaurant all I had to do was mention I had a food allergy and they have one of the Chef's come out to your table and talk to you. WDW is the only place we now take an extended vacation. Go with no fears.

Oh thank you! Disney is pretty much our only vacation spot and I was panicked wondering how I would manage to eat while there. It's going to be difficult because I'm kind of addicted to Mickey waffles and Ohana's bread pudding!

Did the chef give you a separate menu then? DH and I love the food at Disney and I'm worried I won't be able to eat anything good now!

I have had good experiences on my past 2 trips! If you post this question on the DISAbilities forum, you will get many responses and you can see some trip reports. The first thing you should do is send an e-mail to SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com. Someone on the team will send you lists of gluten free items that are available in the parks plus forms to fill out regarding your food allergies.

My dad has Celiac Disease(can't eat gluten). When we go all you do is if you make ADRs tell them ahead of time...if not tell them when you check in. If it is a buffet the chef will come out and tell you what you can eat and sometimes they even will ask you if you want special stuff like at CP a few years back they made him gluten free rolls so he could have some. At regular TS meals or quick service the chef will tell you what on the menu is gluten free. They are really good at this! even at the food court at the hotels. My dad callled down ahead of time and they will make him gluten free pizza. Disney has the best services with food allergies! Let me know if you have any other questions! No worries!

Thank you so much! It is extremely reassuring to hear from people with experience at Disney eating gluten free! I feel so much better now and am sure I'll be able to enjoy our vacation AND the food! My husband is Celiac and he has no problem at all dining in WDW - they are truly amazing. My DH has even had Mickey Waffles prepared Gluten Free for him (they have done this at 'Ohana and Chef Mickey's). Sorry - no luck with the bread pudding -- but he had the most amazing meal at 'Ohana dinner when Chef TJ was working -- the dessert had most other diners jealous looking at it. Do as others have suggested and let them know ahead of time that you have special dietary needs. Enjoy your trip !
