Does anyone else have a problem finding their appetite after long runs?

Lately I've been sleeping in a bit, eating a full breakfast, letting it sit for a bit and then heading out (hey when it's 50 degrees all day, what's the rush for that 5:30 alarm? Summer will be here soon enough :lmao: ) Anyways, so by the time I get back, it's definitely time to eat lunch, of course on top of all the calories I owe my body from running 10+ miles

I've been drinking an individual pouch of organic, low fat choco milk right when I come so I know I get something in my system - and then once I shower, drink water, turn on the tv, dwaddle around the house a bit etc etc - I try to make a real lunch. I'll eat as much as I can...but it's a real struggle and I'm usually not able to finish.

Any one else experience this? Have any brilliant suggestions? It concerns me because I know my body needs the calories and the nutrients from the lunch. Thanks!

are you eating on the long run? You might want to try. That can certainly help having a few jelly beans.

for the most part I'm usually hungry about 30-40 minutes after a long run or marathon (usually enough time to get home). But not really starving right after. Mostly for salty foods (obviously).

As far as encouraging recovery, you want to consume something within 60 minutes. this doesnt have to be a meal, your body will sort out calories just fine within a couple days dont worry, but you want to encourage your muscles and liver to replace their glycogen stores. The best thing to do is have something thats 3:1 carbs to protein. I love chocolate milk for this - its the ideal ratio. I've also become a big fan of ReGen as a recovery beverage too (they had it after MCM). Its a little thicker - still chocolate tho - and kind of keeps my cravings at bay better than the chocolate milk. Especially after runs of like 15+ miles. POM also has a good recovery smoothie which is good on hot days.

I really don't have an appetite after a long run either but I try to eat regardless, however the meal is usually something light.

Thanks! I'll have to look into those recovery drinks - definitely worth a shot.

I do eat on the run - usually sport beans. I'm trying to switch over to the gels though because I think they are more efficient - there are so many beans to chew, I think it's slowing me down too much in a race
