Eating at Showcase with an 11 y.o.

Okay...I have an 11 y.o. who still eats like an 8 y.o. I just hate to pay adult prices when he's going to want to eat off the child's menu. I know he will never eat the items on the adult menu. Can he order from the child's menu? Will he still be charged the adult prices?

I had this issue when my kids were about the same age. when we made ressies we classified our kids as a child. I was not about to pay adult prices when my kids were going to order mac and cheese off the kids menu.

Thanks for the reply. I thought about saying "child" when we made reservations. He's actually short for his age and could probably pass for 9 going on 10. I'll go ahead and do that when I make my ressies. Thanks again!

2 years ago when we did the candlelight processional dinner package we ate at R&C and we were dumb enough to pay for our kids as adults. DD actually had a melt down at the table and cried at the prospect of ordering from the regular menu. The CM serving us said they have this issue a lot and we should have just said we had 2 children.

We don't do the dining package and have never had a problem ordering and paying for a childs meal. No need to change the ages of the kids when making the reservation either mine were listed at the correct ages - 9 and 11.

Just ask for a childs menu when your are being seated and order whatever they want. My kids often choose and appetizer or soup and sald instead of the kids stuff but when they want the kids meal its been fine.

You really can get your child a meal they will enjoy without having to be dishonest in front of them. When DS was 11, he still ordered off the kids menu at DW all the time. Never was questioned or age asked. As long as the amount of food is ok you should be fine. if you need more food. most places will fix an adult size serving of a kids meal for a higher cost.

Most any place will also taylor an adult meal to suit your child. MANY places did this for my picky 14 year old on our last trip in Jan. One place simplified a pasta dish, another made his steak plain. One did fries instead of a veggie and another put each item on a plate so the food did not touch..

You might have to pay what is expected of you to pay but you will be able to please your child. Of course buffets would be at adult price.

Unless it is special meal like CP or Fantasmic, it really should not matter what age your child is listed at on the ADR.

I agree, I don't misrepresent my kids ages when we are just paying OOP at a meal, nobody asks their ages anyway.

In our case, we had to specify and pay in advance because we did a dinner package for the CP-the meal was charged to our credit card long before we ever got to Disney. Now if the CM tells me I should have made the ressies for 2 adutls and 2 children instead of 4 adults, I wouldn't feel like I was doing a bad thing. I do feel bad when I pay $40 more for a meal than was necessary and my kids still ate mac and cheese and nothing off of the adult menu. I don't see why I should take a financial hit because I'm being honest. The manager at R&C agreed with me and told me the same thing the CM did, but said he could not credit my card for the difference because it was an advance payment. I learned a very pricey lesson and remembered that for when we did CRT on the next trip. With stuff like Chef Mickey's and HDDR I do feel like it would not be right to pay a child rate since the meal and portions are the same for all, so in that case we bite the bullet and pay adult rates for our technically "adult" children.
