I am trying to meal plan a month at a time so I can stock up on meat, etc when sales come.

Any good recipe blogs or websites for *family* friendly recipes?

No braised apple legs or lamb with shallots and port wine sauce with kiddos:lmao:

I have a few on my blog (link in siggy) if you want to check it out. But I am loving this thread, I need some new recipes, I've been in such a rut lately!!!

We're vegetarian.... but some of the VERY EARLY posts had meat in them though.

I'm not a big blog reader, but my favorite recipe site is food.com (used to be recipezaar.com). They have a few hundred thousand recipes, and the search function is pretty good. For example, if you bought chicken on sale one week, you could click on the link for "chicken recipes" and then sort by most popular or "time to make." I've found that a lot of the most popular ones are also pretty family-friendly.

There are also tons of reviews...the reviews can help you decide how you may want to tweak certain recipes for your family, or clarify something that is unclear, or offer substitutions if you don't have certain ingredients on hand (or don't like them).

Plus the site is totally FREE and you can create your own online cookbook if you are browsing and find things you may want to make at a later date. They also have a thread called OAMC (once a month cooking). If you type that in, you'll find lots of stuff you can make and freeze.

Do you like to use your crockpot? Check out the "A Year of Slowcooking" blog:

Like this for Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken recipe:
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken, cut in 1-inch chunks
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dried ginger
2 tablespoons soy sauce (I use La Choy because it's gluten free)
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (add more to taste at the table if you'd prefer more heat)
1 (16-ounce) package stir-fry vegetables (to add later)

The Directions.

Use a 4-quart slow cooker. Put the chicken into the bottom of your crockpot and then add the garlic, brown sugar, ginger, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes. Toss the chicken to fully coat with the sauce ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours, then add the frozen vegetables. Re cover and cook on high for an hour, or until the veggies are fully hot and the chicken has reached desired tenderness.
Serve with white or brown rice.

One I really, really, really love is $5 dinners http://www.5dollardinners.com/ Very accessible recipes, made from real food, with menu plans and shopping lists. It's a great one.

There's a great resource on "I'm an Organizing Junkie" for all kinds of menu/meal planning advice and links. http://orgjunkie.com/menu-plan-monday-guidelines/menu-planning-resources

I have to second "Cheap, Healthy, Good." The blogger is great to read and makes super healthy whole foods very approachable. Her 1 chicken, 17 meals was an awesome feat. And her article on 102 Cheap and Healthy Salad Dressings was GREAT.
