Royal Pacific Trip Report 7/15-7/20 in general
Rather than break things down day by day, I thought Id break it down into categories.
CHECK IN: We booked a Stay and Play package through Universal Vacations. It actually worked out better than booking everything separately. We included transportation to and from the airport in the package. They now use Quick Transportation which was great. We were met at the airport by a driver with a sign with our name. He got our baggage and loaded the Town Car and off we went. Round trip Town Car service was only $29 extra per person. We only had two in our party, so for $58 we had round trip luxury transportation from the airport. They arrived at the Royal Pacific for our pick up about 15 minutes early. They were great! Our room wasnt ready, but we did get one of the rooms we had requested1633. Great location if you want to walk to the parks and also for watching the fireworks.
ROYAL PACIFUC RESORT: We had always stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in the past. We decided to try the RPR and are glad we did. We wanted to walk to the parks, so we requested a room in Tower One. We like being the farthest room from the elevator because its more quiet without hallway traffic. Our room was at the end of the hall right by the door for the staircase that brings you out to the walking path to the parks. It took me five minutes to get to Margaritaville without walking very fast. The walk was nice and we only took the water taxi about 2 or 3 times. Service at the hotel was good. We loved how dark we could get the room for sleeping. The curtains did a great job of blocking out all light. We had a view of the Hulk, Dr. Doom, the walking path and the waterway. Also perfect viewing of the fireworks at US.
EXPRESS ACCESS: I went early and did the Hulk without express (saving that one time before 3:00). I wanted to test the one express with room key before 3:00, so I rode the Hulk using my room key and then went right back on using the room key. No one said a word! Of course it was AM and things werent too badly backed up yet. Then I went to the back of the park and did Dueling Dragons over and over and over. I love the front row, which is why I go back there right away. The Dragons were still pretty much empty at 10:00.
The waits with express were longer than during our last visit to the parks (two years ago). Your best bet is still to go early. Express for Spiderman in the first two hours of opening was anywhere from a walk on to five minutes. Later in the day it was 15 or 20 minutes. Express wait for Hulk in the PM ranged from 10-15 minutes. Express wait for Mummy always seemed to be about 20-25 minutes. One evening I had already waited 25 minutes and was a couple steps from the platform when they announced the ride was down. After waiting another ten minutes I gave up.
They only places they scanned our room keys were Cat and the Hat and the Mummy.
Having the room key for Shrek was GREAT. It was pretty much a walk in unless a show had just started when we arrived. People in the regular line were waiting 75 minutes!!
The parks were very crowded. Having the room key is great even with the minor restrictions (which were not always enforced).
DINING: Dinner our first night was at Mythos (just love that place). I had the seared scallops with gnocchi. Most gnocchi Ive had has been somewhat heavy. This was so light and good! The scallops were great. My friend had seared Mahi which was also delicious. We were too full for dessert. We also had a lunch at Mythos--Cowboy barbeque brisket and the grilled chicken sandwich. AND--the warm chocolate gooey banana cake. YUMMMMMM!!
Lunch the next day was at Lombards Landing. I really like their seafood Cobb salad.
Dinner that night was Tchoup Chop. What can I saythis place is GREAT!! We started with the Crunchy Shrimp and the Crab Cake. Both were delicious, but we thought the crab cake edged out the shrimp. I had the Fire Cracker Fish (fish of the day was Corvina), which was wonderful. My friend had a specialyellow fin tuna. Im not a big tuna fan, but this was fantastic. For dessert we had the Banana Cream pie and the pineapple upside down cake with ginger ice cream. I thought the pie was too thick, but my friend loved it. We also had lunch at Tchoup Chop one day and it was great also.
We also had meals at NBA City, Latin Quarter,Margaritaville, Hard Rock Café, Islands, and Fire Eaters Grille. All meals were good, but Mythos and Tchoup Chop were outstanding!!
