Tackling WDW for the first time the week of August 8th. Traveling with DW, DS14 and DD7. We got 4 day park hopper passes. We are staying off site, although next time I may lean towards staying on site. I do have a question or two...

I have not made any PS for dining. I was just planning on eating where we can when we get hungry. Will I regret this? Are there dining experiences that we should experience?

If I was to play one round of golf, which course should I play? I was thinking the Magnolia course. I can't make a Tee Time because Ii will be playing when the family needs downtime or go to the water park. Do you think a single can walk on late morning or early afternoon?

These forums have been a great learning experience. I have read many helpful suggestions and kept me from making a few mistakes.

Thanks!

I suggest you try at least one PS, particularly if its a character meal. Also, some of the restaurants are in resorts (e.g., Boma at AK), so you not only get a good meal, but you get to wander around the hotel, kinda feel out where you might want to stay on your next trip.

I also have an alternative answer to your golf question. The Fantasia mini-golf location has a very interesting 18-hole course modeled after a real golf course. The holes are laid out just like regular golf holes - dog legs, sand traps, undulating fairways, etc. You have to lay up in strategic places in order to do well on most holes. The holes are also much longer than typical putt-putt holes.

Its not really a course for young children. It will definitely test your putting skills. So, if you don't have the time for a regular round of golf, it might be a fun alternative.

Magnolia is a great one for a 'one time' golf day................it is challenging but not ridiculous.........I played this course when I was a 20 handicap and found it very enjoyable.........

I would suspect you would be able to walk on in the late morning/early afternoon, due to the sheer fact that August will more than likely be unbearably hot, and most folks (especially the locals) are done with their rounds in Florida by the time you are speaking of playing (I lived in FL for a little while).........

You could always call for a tee time as soon as you know "when you can play" and see what they have.............

Good luck..........:hyper:

DH has always played as a single, and he's the type of person who shows up about an hour before his tee time to "warm up" (he claims, but I know it's just because he loves golf). Practically every time, he's offered an earlier time than his scheduled tee time because there's always an opening somewhere for a single. His favorite course is Osprey Ridge, so beautiful, but he also likes Lake Buena Vista. The only problem with Magnolia is that it was by far the most crowded course last time he went-but the ladies who go around with the cart and food were extremely nice and helpful. Great service there-come to think of it, great service at all the courses.

Magnilia is probably the more memorable because it's the main course for the PGA tournament. The pros also play the Palm. Magnolia is pretty tough. Lots of trees and grainy bermuda greens. It is definately the signature Disney course with the Mickey Mouse sand trap

Personally I love Osprey Ridge. A Tom Fazio course with broad sweeping sand traps. Extremely fair. When you play it, you know you're playing a course made by one of the best gold course architects of all time.

I'm not a fan of Lake Buena Vista. It is easier, but is surrounded by resort lodgings. I don't like playing around buildings with glass. If you're pressed for time, you could try the Oak Trail 9-hole executive course. I've never playined it, but i think it's in a similar vein of Magnolia and Palm.
