Any specific eateries to stay away from? I know everyone's taste is different, but was looking to find out if there are any places that just aren't worth our time.

We stay away from Mel's diner and the International Food Fair thing at Universal. We stay away from Blondie's and Confisco's at IOA.

Any certain reason why? Just curious.

We've had mediocre food at the above. Probably the worst was Confisco's. Interestingly enough, I rarely see it recommended around here.

There are way better places to eat and once we have a sub-par meal, it is very unlikely that we'll try again.

Hmm, I actually had a pretty good meal at Confisco's. But I only had the fajitas, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. But if you plan on doing table service at IoA, definitely choose Mytho's above Consico's :thumbsup2

We love the fajitas at Confiscos-always on our to do list. It really is a matter of taste.

I also like Mel's for a quick fresh meal in the middle of the day. I see a lot of people disliking it on this board but I have never had a bad meal here.

Captain America is pretty terrible and I dislike the burger digs at IOA. Universal I do not like Richter's burger's or the international food festival.

I agree with Captain America Diner and would like to add Cafe 4 to the list to avoid. However...The Burger Digs as well as Mel's and Richter's have been hit or miss with me. I ususally stick with Thunder Falls Terrace or Mythos at IOA and Louie's or Finnegan's at the Studios.

I agree - we have enjoyed the meals we had at Mel's.

Getting out my flame retardant suit for this one - I don't get all the hype around Mythos. The food was ok, the place was NOISY and the service was less than stellar! It does have a nice view and a menu that looks well above your average park fare but we were less than impressed. I know that many people here love it but it isn't high on our list.

No need for the flame retardant suit. I am sure that every restaurant will make it on the restaurant to avoid list just as pretty much every restaurant will make it on the recommended list. It is just one of those things where people can have a bad experience anywhere.

Stay away from Captain America diner! It was horrible, we were there shortly after they opened and the burgers tasted like they were leftovers from the night before and then reheated in a microwave. Gross!
The only good thing was there are bathrooms inside so while it was pouring rain outside, we didn't have to leave to go find one, it was right there.

We know you like TfT ;)

I'm starting to hear the word "fanboy...." in the distance ;) Then again, I am a fanboy of Three Broomsticks. *Shrugs* we're creatures of habit.

We rarely eat in the parks, but we ate on that Meal Plan a while back. Guess what? As a result, I always eat at Citywalk. My favorite place to eat is in the food court. I personally think that the food court is the best culinary thing they made at US/IOA.

Why? Because you can eat at Moe's or Panda Express. And the prices are about the same as if you went to those places close to home.

Also, they have the Whopper Bar. I like that because you can get your choice of toppings. I also love the cheap prices.

See, we're cheap. A couple of years back, we went to US/IOA for 5 days for a vacation. We paid less than $1200 for a family of four. That included the rental car, the gas, the road snacks, (we drove from Atlanta), hotel, tickets, food, and US/IOA swag. So we know how to do cheap!

That being said, we will splurge this year and purchase something that I've wanted the entire time being at IOA: some of that barbeque next to Jurassic Park! Can someone tell me: Is it as good or better than Flame Tree in AK at WDW???

We have ate at a lot of the places in Citywalk and the parks. We have had good meals and bad, that does not mean they are bad after a bad meal.:thumbsup2

Oh...If you want good BBQ at a cheap price, you need to try Bubbalou's which is right up the street from Universal. It's the best BBQ in town and the prices are very reasonable. If you eat there, you will NOT be disappointed...trust me. :thumbsup2

WOW, great prices! Thanks for posting. Any other "local" places you recommend? We are at universal for 2 dinners and then down at WDW for the rest. (we will have a car)

I think most of the counter service places are pretty gross. I usually eat at Panda Express in CityWalk.

I might have to check that out! I"m kind of a foodie and I like finding little joints with great food!

A couple years back, I went to this little place called 'Mama Nem's' in Orlando. I think it's the best soul food restaurant in Florida. If you like that sort of food, or have never tried that sort of food- go check them out!
