Eateries to stay away from ???

I might have to check that out! I"m kind of a foodie and I like finding little joints with great food!

A couple years back, I went to this little place called 'Mama Nem's' in Orlando. I think it's the best soul food restaurant in Florida. If you like that sort of food, or have never tried that sort of food- go check them out!

No no you're wrong. the best soul food is in the kitchens of the true sotherners like my momma! Pshhhh restaurant soul food my butt! ;)

Funnily enough, we love Burger Digs at IOA and just realized that Richter's at Universal is the same stuff. I think it's the pickles that are the #1 for my husband.

Oh and uh those red velvet cupcakes in the bakery/candy shop behind Richter's are AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHMAZING.

And I can't believe I'm saying this, but the counter service places at UO are so much better than the ones at Disney. Just tastes better.

Actually, I cook great food and my wife and her family are great soul food cooks. However, we're talking about restaurants in Orlando that may be a good find, and Mama Nem's is very good.

(As a matter of fact, the actual topic is restaurants to avoid, but I like to talk about little restaurant jewels.)

We stay away from Mel's diner and the International Food Fair thing at Universal. We stay away from Blondie's and Confisco's at IOA.
I agree with International Food cause everytime we ate there the food was cold or been sitting out too long but Confisco's we ate there for the first time last year and loved the buffalo chicken sliders :thumbsup2

I was only kidding don't take it so harsh.

WOW, great prices! Thanks for posting. Any other "local" places you recommend? We are at universal for 2 dinners and then down at WDW for the rest. (we will have a car)
The other local restaurants I go to are waaaaaaaaay off the beaten path so I wouldn't want to tell you about those places. Stick with Bubbalou's for this trip and maybe when you come down again, I will have discovered another place. ;)

Sorry. I should have put in a smiley face. I wasn't taking it harshly, but I'm pretty direct at work. (Sometimes I can't tell the difference between being a businessman and an attorney.) It just spilled over to my comments.

So, here you go!:flower3:

But seriously, try Mama Nem's. It's good.

Lawyers... *shutters* I USED to manage rental properties for two guys who were lawyers. Note the USED TO. *shakes head* I thought I was an OCD perfectionist. I added probably 15 forms to the business when I took over but I wasn't thorough. :sad2:

In 2010, I didn't do any sit down dining meals, although I must try Confisco's, Three Broomsticks, and maybe even Mythos too this summer.

I found The Burger Digs to be quite nice. I am not a food gourmet expert, nor do I expect 5 star service at a theme park, so The Burger Digs was the most impressive for me. Nice location, ample seating, although the queues did move slowly at lunchtimes, I guess because of its participation in the Meal Deal.

I, shamefully perhaps, ordered the Cheeseburger (forget the exact name) and Spicy fries with a large Coke virtually every lunchtime that I was there, and I always ate outside, either by the little pond opposite the facade, or out the back of the Discovery Center, beside the lagoon. You get some amazing birds and wildlife try to steal your food. :lmao:

Plus the area behind Discovery Center facing the Lagoon must be the HOTTEST place in the whole park as I guess around lunchtime the sun is at full power and is positioned in the direction that will burn your back of your legs in no time.

That being said, we will splurge this year and purchase something that I've wanted the entire time being at IOA: some of that barbeque next to Jurassic Park! Can someone tell me: Is it as good or better than Flame Tree in AK at WDW???

Not sure you ever got an answer - but I would say, yes - definitely. The Thunder Falls Terrace is streets ahead (+10 for any Community fans) of Flame Tree. Don't forget to get some of that amazing roasted corn on the cob too! :thumbsup2

My most favorate is Bubba Gump's and always get Momma's southern fried chicken. The last time I was at IOA we went to 3 Broomsticks and it was really good.

Blondie's wasn't good. It was lunchmeat on a roll - no oil or vinegar. They gave a choice of mustard or mayo & I don't like either.

We had the Three Broomsticks breakfast & threw most of it in the trash. The croissant was stale & tasteless but we did enjoy the atmosphere & pear cider.

The Kitchen was over priced & s-l-o-w. I could deal with inflated prices if it wasn't so darn slow but it was bad both times we went.

Can someone tell me about Margaritaville.

Is it possible to purchase a cocktail from there and take it out? Or do you have to drink it inside the premises? Obviously it is not a good idea to walk around like a lout drinking alcohol through CityWalk, but I mean maybe sip a margarita quietly to myself on my way back to RPR via the walkways after a day in the park?

What's the policy?

Actually you can walk around with alcohol. There are stands that sell some pretty good drinks.

I noticed a Margaritaville bar across from the restaurant. Pretty sure you could order there.

I never got a drink there but they also have a window where you can buy regular and frozen margarittas and you don't have to go in but have no idea what time it opens :thumbsup2

Oh...If you want good BBQ at a cheap price, you need to try Bubbalou's which is right up the street from Universal. It's the best BBQ in town and the prices are very reasonable. If you eat there, you will NOT be disappointed...trust me. :thumbsup2

The menu looks great, DH love BBque. I tried to find this on mapquest and couldn't find it. Is it easy to find from PBH?
