In the grand tradition of "I've finally caught up to SpideyHulk" and "Eat your heart out Flyfly", I have now started a thread to gloat about a trivial accomplishment on the message board.

According to my profile bar, as of this month I have been a registered member of this message board for 4 years!

That's like as long as high school! That's like one presidential term! That's like the run of a quasi-successful television show! That's like, nearly too long! ;)

But actually, what most don't realize (and have no interest in) is that I actually registered on the message board a full two months earlier. I signed up as "Doc Bosch" (note the space) in August of 1999, and when I couldn't remember my password, I re-registered in October as "DocBosch".

Anyway, enough of that...

Wow!!!! Congratulations..........I think it's the "bonding" on these boards and the warm greetings and comedy that keeps us here. It could be so easy just to walk away and never be heard of again, but "something" stops us doing that......and I suppose that's a kind of tribute to everyone who posts and is a part of it.
(Now which smiley shall I choose?!!!!) Hmmmm :wave2:

Congrats!!! Four years is a long time - we should have a ceremony or something. I can just hear that graduation march song in my head now....LOL :listen:

Well, here's to your successful 1st term!
Can we expect your 1st indie film success this next term?

hmm when did I register?

Edit: Aug 2000? I'm sure I was on the old DIS boards before that. In fact, I met Pete Werner back before IOA opened!!

Kevin, is it the quality or quantity of time that matters? I think an argument could be made in either direction since Fly Fly and Spidey Hulk have about 6x your posts in less time. But what do I know? It's 10pm on a Saturday and my little sister and I have been sharing a case of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Anyway, congratulations!

Well, is it the quality or quantity of posts that matter?

If you go though my dismal amount of posts, you'll find a number of lengthy selections that took a lot of thought and time to put together. I tend not to make short, frivolous posts (at least, not until recently ;) ), I try not to respond to anything unless I actually have something productive to add, and I definitely don't post for the sake of generating a higher post number.

SpideyHulk and Flyfly’s 1000 post mark was notable because it’s people like them who have contributed to the recent reinvigoration of the message board, but I also think the people who’ve been loyal members for a long time, who may not have as many posts, were the ones who set the foundation for such a forum to exist in the first place.

Over the years I’ve made friends with long time regulars who just can’t post or even check the board every day, but these are also the people who, in the long run, have contributed the most and who will still be around years down the road. In short, you can make a million posts in a single day, but it takes four years to amount four years.
