Has anyone seen it? How was it?

I'm hoping to take my boyfriend along. Would it completely bore him?

I tried to read the book and was bored silly. I think the movie may be worse.

I'm trying to read the book and finding the same thing. I am very disappointed, because the previews of the movie made it seem like the book would be better then I thought it would be. I am hoping the movie won't be as bad, but I think I'll wait for it to come out on dvd so I don't waste money on going to the theater.

Saw the movie Friday night, with my hubby, it was very slow and I really did not enjoy it to much. It's like 2hrs and 15 min. My husband was completely bored. The scenary is beautiful though!!! This is just my opinion and I'm sure some people love it...it just wasn't for me!!!

unless you REALLY want to make it up to him, I would probably pass on that movie with him. This coming from the lady who took her husband with her to see Mama Mia and had to make up for that;)

I started on the book and just gave up. I did not like it at all.

I haven't seen the movie but I also did not like the book. I found it to be boring, slow... and somewhat shallow and self-indulgent. I might rent the movie when it comes out on DVD just to see how it compares but I will not spend my money seeing it in theaters. I would rather spend my money on a nice Italian meal and recreate my own scene from the book!:thumbsup2

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who couldn't get through this book. BOOOORRRRRING! I have no interest in the movie.

Saw the movie Friday night with my sister and two daughters. Bored the heck out of us all. Could not wait for it to be over.

Hated the book. I too found Elizabeth to be self
indulgent and whiny.

I have a friend who loved it but didn't read the book. I asked her if Elizabeth came across as whiny and she said no.

I like Julia Roberts---so maybe she'll make Elizabeth more endearing, but I can't bring myself to pay to go see it in a movie theater unless I come across someone who hated the book but loved the movie. Haven't found that person, yet.

I saw it last night and liked it. However, I'm a similar age as the main character and a very similar place of life. It's not for everyone. it's a very introspective movie. There is almost zero action.

DH and I saw it last night. He said that he was surprised that he actually liked it. Now, for the record, he is willing to go to the movies with me to see anything -- so this isn't a go for you to take your husband or boyfriend if they don't like this sort of movie. I bought the book very recently and haven't even had a chance to start reading it yet.

There's a thought! Thanks.

Saw it last night (without DH who was away!)

Yep, very l-o-n-g and almost boring.

PS: the one guy DOES completely steal the show in the middle part of the movie, leaves Julia Roberts in the shadows. She wowed everybody and blew us away when she did Pretty Woman... I don't know if she has had a really dynamic performance since then? :confused3

Thank you for saying that. I thought it was just me. I am on chapter 30 or so and I'm barely hanging in there with it. Self-indulgent is exactly the word! I *am* enjoying her descriptions of the food she's eating in Italy, however. Makes me want to go to Naples just for the pizza

Was it in India--if so, I have a feeling which person it might be as he had some hysterical statements that she wrote about in that portion of the book. Some that made you scratch your head wondering if people speak like that. It was one of the more...enjoyable parts of the book. :)

The movie was way too long and nowhere near as good as the book. The scenery was beautiful, though. But leave your BF at home for sure, lol.

People magazine says they hated the book and really liked the movie! They said the acting was great and the scenery beautiful. Man, I have the book on hold at the library--maybe I'll cancel!

Yes, it was in India. Definitely an Oscar contender. But the scene was dramatic, not the statements that you're thinking of. Those were in other scenes.

I enjoyed the book. The whole meditation thing in India was a bit much in the book, but really glossed over in the movie. I also enjoyed the movie- cute and beautiful scenery. I did not find it boring, but I would definitely not take dh. Total chick flick.
