Okay, so after nearly a week of no power and no plumbing, a college move-in and a one-week high school delay, I am back to updating this review. Since we had take-out or restaurant food most of the week, I appreciate our great Disney meals even more, particularly our meal at Flying Fish which wins best meal of the trip.

We were lucky enough to have three signature meals this trip: Flying Fish, Yachtsman and Brown Derby. All were excellent, but Flying Fish stood out.

Our last trip to FF was when Disney first started the dining plan and we had free dining, which included appetizer and tip. Those were the days! I don’t recall the exact date, but it was at least 5 or 6 years ago and the kids, obviously, were younger. I remember being in the back of the restaurant, it was very loud, and it was difficult for our kids to understand why they had to stay quiet and well-behaved when most of the adults in the restaurant were loud. Beyond that, we thought the food was okay, but not great. DS had ordered the steak and did not enjoy it and the fish was good, but not outstanding. Based on that experience, we had not returned. Then I started seeing pictures on these boards of the mussels appetizers and these pictures certainly piqued my interest. Since the kids did not want to go back, we made it one of our date nights. We will certainly go again!

Although the restaurant was not crowded, we were given a buzzer and set off to the bar for drinks. We learned that you could eat at the bar without a reservation, and this may be something we do in the future as it was a nice spot. As soon as the bartender started making our drinks, our buzzer went off and we were shown to our table, a nice little two-seater by the front of the restaurant. If it were busier, this may not have been the best spot because people waiting could certainly be looking at your food as you eat, but by the time we were seated, there was no longer any patrons waiting. I brought along my glowing drink, which was fun and tasty.

We had a great server who provided excellent recommendations and came over just as needed without being overbearing. I knew what I was having—the mussels-which were wonderful and enough for an entire meal. The sauce was slightly spicy, with a basil garlic taste. It came with toasted baguette bread which was wonderful when dipped in the sauce.

DH does not usually eat mussels, but he definitely shared the bread and sauce and loved it. This dish was a total winner. DH ordered the heirloom tomato salad with mozzarella. This dish was also wonderful. I tried some of the tomatoes, which were fresh and vine-ripened.

We both thought we would not be able to eat our main dishes and would have been satisfied with the check at that point. DH was especially full because he had a cold and did not think he could eat any more. Then, these two beautiful dishes came out.

DH had ordered the scallop risotto and I ordered the swordfish. When I saw the scallops, he knew he had to give them up. We traded and I must say that the scallops were cooked just right and the risotto was great. This was a wonderful mix of flavors. Halfway through, we traded back. The swordfish was the special fish that night and it was really wonderful. There was a crab stuffed zucchini flower on the dish that DH saved for me, which was wonderful. The swordfish was tender and the veggies, including an eggplant puree, were very tasty and a good accompaniment. Two winners, but I would get the scallops again in a heartbeat.

Now we were truly stuffed, but pleasantly so and we knew we had to try the desserts since dinner was so good. I ordered the dessert trio and DH ordered a gelato dish. The trio was amazing. It looked like a burger with fries and a cherry coke. I don't remember what the end piece was supposed to be, but it was caramel corn over cheesecake. Didn't sound tasty, but it was.

The cherry coke was actually a popsicle, the burger was a whoppie pie and the fries were cookies. These were really well done. The gelato was also outstanding and came with a nice assortment of fresh fruit.

So, this was a wonderful meal. Would we return? Absolutely!!

Great trip report....we are not too far from you here in CT and were without power for 5 days. What a nightmare!

Yes, no fun at all. Showers at the Y, water distribution in town and lots of candle light. We had to throw out everything in our fridge and freezer. Started over with healthier stuff. Let's see how long that lasts.

It was awesome. We've got a long weekend in the World for Columbus Day and we might go back and have something at the bar. It will be very hard to choose between the scallops and the mussels!

Who doesn’t love dessert for breakfast? With the trip moving along and the DDP causing us to eat way to many desserts at TS restaurants, I was beginning to miss some of my favorite snack desserts. So when DS suggested going over to the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast, I was in. He opted for the traditional-a croissant sandwich with ham and eggs. He liked this very much.

Afraid that I would miss out on all the bakery snacks if I waited til later in the day, I opted for an éclair. I loved it and ate the whole thing. The pastry was light and the custard filling was light as well. The chocolate exterior added a nice touch!

Not to be outdone by his mom, DS had a breakfast "dessert." DS really loved the chocolate croissant and had several more during the course of the trip.

Teppan Edo

We love Teppan Edo. First, the service has always been great. Also, we have always had good food here. It is hibachi service done well. Although we started with one ADR here for lunch, we added another dinner when we found ourselves with extra dining credits. Among us, we tried the steak, filet, chicken, shrimp and scallops. All winners. I also had a Mount Fuji fru-fru drink which was quite tasty. The following pictures are from both visits:

The chicken is not overcooked and is tender.

Question about the ham egg cheese croissant from BWI Bakery...was the egg scrambled or more like an omelet form like Main Street Bakery has?

In the past the bacon egg cheese and tomato egg cheese croissant from BWI Bakery have been scrambled and it is impossible to eat as the egg is falling out everywhere

Love YC CL. Stayed there for Christmas in 2009 and the service was great. I hope you have a good dinner at La Hacienda. We often go back to places that we had problems with in the past and like them better the second time. Had an issue with Flying Fish years ago, and loved it in August. Might have to give Via Napoli another chance because I think I am the only one who had an issue with it.

Thanks for the report You guys ate at some of the places on list. Sorry about LaHacienda..i wanted to try that place; but now i think i'll look for another. Great pics!

I just found your dining report and I am joining in! I am happy to see how good the food looks at Flying Fish. My husband and I are going there for our anniversary dinner. I want one of those trio desserts.

Whenever we have gone to AK, we have eaten at FlameTree or the CS version of Yak & Yeti. This time, we tried the TS restaurant and we had a great time. Thanks to other posters on these boards, we asked for an upstairs table by the window. This worked out well for people watching and also it was a relatively quiet and cool room, which was just right as it was a hot August day.

We shared the string beans appetizer. These are as good as everyone says. However, I am the only real string bean lover in my family, so it filled me up.



For our main courses, we ordered beef with broccoli. Both sons loved this. My daughter had the lo mein and while she said she liked it, she left half the plate. It was huge. DH had the steak and shrimp which he enjoyed and I had the salmon with veggies, a very good choice.

For dessert, we had chocolate cake, sorbet and the wontons (above). The cake was heavy and very rich and we did not enjoy it. Sorry, no pic. The wontons were interesting, but not a real dessert for me and a bit heavy. The sorbet was very nice.

Overall, we enjoyed Yak and Yeti very much, but it is not one for our must do list. I think it was fun to try somewhere new, and it is a nice break from the heat, but a lot of the flavors are similar to our local take out, so maybe we will venture back in a couple of years.
