I've thought about this as well. We are renting DVC points, 3 nights at AKL and 3 at Polynesian Villas.. but I don't know if I can justify the cost especially since we'll be doing Food and Wine for a few days. It sure is tempting, though.

I'm sorry this response is so delayed, I somehow missed this part of your post originally. Since you will have different reservation numbers for the split stay, you could always add the DDxDP to one reservation and then just do go with the flow on the reservation during the time you are planning on visiting F&W.

You have some great choices, I'm looking forward to reading your reviews!!

Thanks! I'm getting more and more excited the closer we get to our trip. Hopefully my writing style for my report will be easy and fun to read, so that people end up following along. ;)

So I have decided I want to make a few tweaks/rearrangements to our ADRs, and have been hopeful that they would be easy changes to make with everyone posting over the last week that suddenly lots of reservations were showing up as available that hadn't been there for months beforehand. Unfortunately, I have not been so lucky.

The two things I want to change that I've not been able to find availability yet are 1) I want to move our breakfast reservation at Ohana up to about 25-30 minutes earlier and 2) I want to have a late lunch/early dinner at Via Napoli on Wednesday instead of lunch on Friday. This would also require me to move our Whispering Canyon lunch from Wednesday to Friday, but that has availability, so I'm not worried about it.

I'll keep checking frequently over the next 15-30 days in hopes that between FP+ reservations and final pymts being due, that more reservations will become available, since our 60 day mark is on Monday.

Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations!

Got back Saturday late night after 8 days of DDxDP and hoping to start my review by this weekend!

Hello all! I am (obviously) quite delayed in starting my dining report and reviews, so I hope you'll still read along. :D As a refresher, we were out at the World from Saturday 12/5 through Saturday 12/12 on a split stay between Saratoga Springs and Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani Village. We added the Deluxe Dining Plan to both stays. Some of the pictures quality is not great, the camera was being finicky, so I apologize for that now. So without further ado, my dining report!

Saturday December 5th

We left LAX late on Friday night and arrived in Orlando around 6:30am. We stopped by the United Club to change into our clothes for the day and grab some quick breakfast. If memory serves we had fresh oatmeal and there was butter, brown sugar, and golden raisins available as toppings, and some fresh whole fruit. I didn’t take any pictures since it wasn’t Disney food. We then headed down to catch the Magical Express, yay!

We disembarked the ME at Saratoga Springs and checked in so that our dining plan would be activated and then headed over the The Artist’s Palette to pick up/fill our refillable mugs. It was too early for our room to be ready, so we headed over to the Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf course and played a round of mini golf on the Fantasia course. Right as we played our last hole, it was time to head over to Beaches & Cream for lunch. This was a relatively late addition to our line up of dining reservations (I’m borderline obsessive about planning ADRs well in advance ;-P ), so I spent a few weeks obsessively checking for a lunch reservation (lunch on arrival day was the only time it would fit into our schedule) and I was finally able to snag one maybe a week before we checked in. I was so excited!!!

Beaches & Cream lunch 12/5/16, 11:50am

We were about 15 minutes late to our reservation due to trying to figure out how to actually get to the restaurant. We walked over to the Beach Club from the mini golf course and could see the restaurant, but had trouble finding how to get back to it because of the pool. Thank goodness for grace periods! Once we checked in, we were given a buzzer and told to hang out and we would be seated shortly. I don’t think we waited more than 10 minutes before our buzzer went off and we were seated. Our server was prompt and friendly and good with refills. It was much smaller on the inside than I thought it would be, which gave me a whole new understanding on why the ADRs fill up so quickly. We chose to pay out of pocket for this meal, rather than use dining plan credits. Now let’s get to the food, shall we?!

What we ordered: Me – Entree: Grilled Cheese & Tomato Bisque
dessert: No Way Jose

Husband – Entree: Grilled Cheese & Tomato Bisque
dessert: No Way Jose

Kiddo - Entree: Goldfish Turkey Sandwich & Fries

.... and after!

So cute!

Our review: The grilled cheese was decent, though it wasn’t nearly as hot as it should have been, and the tomato soup was ok, but could have used more depth of flavor. We would both order this meal again. The turkey sandwich & fries were rated “good”.

The No Way Jose Sundae was the biggest reason I wanted to visit this restaurant and holy cats did this sundae live up to the internet hype!!! Ii was so delicious, I couldn’t stop eating, even though I am normally good with just having a bite or two and letting my husband eat the rest. This alone was worth all of the obsessive checking for a reservation. :D When I asked my son what he thought of his sundae, he grinned and asked when he could have it again, so I’ll put that down as a “he really liked it”.

The best part of the meal, which deserves mention, is what happened when it was time for the bill. The server brought our bill to the table and explained to us that another guest had already paid for our meal, but asked to remain anonymous. My husband is a Marine veteran and was wearing a Marines related shirt, and I was wearing a shirt that said something along the lines of "This girl loves Mickey and her Marine", so we are pretty sure it was their way of thanking my husband for his service. It was such a special and touching thing to happen, as things like that don't normally happen to us. My husband was very touched and it definitely helped start our vacation off in a wonderful mood! We ended up waiting for a bus with the family who are pretty sure were the anonymous benefactors, so we were able to chat with them a bit, which was neat. (Didn't say anything about the meal though, since they had asked to remain anonymous).

We had fun and enjoyed our food overall. This will not be a mandatory “have to visit” every trip, but it will definitely be in our regular rotation from here on out.

Next up: drinks at Trader Sam’s and dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

While at lunch, I received a text with our room number, so we headed back over to Saratoga Springs to drop our bags off and rest for a bit (ha! I spent the whole time unpacking and organizing) before heading over to the Polynesian for drinks at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.

We arrived very shortly after opening, but were told that there was no seating available inside and they recommended that we sit out on the terrace. I was quite disappointed since this was the only day of our 8 day trip that visiting Trader Sam’s fit into our schedule. Being from Southern California, we have visited the Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel on multiple occasions and wanted to see how the Florida location compared. It took a little bit of convincing, but they finally agreed to let us in once we told them we didn’t need to sit down and only wanted one round of drinks as we had a dinner reservation to make.

We went in and grabbed a drink menu, though I already knew what I wanted. I ordered a Polynesian Pearl (RumChata Cream Liqueur, Grand Marnier, and Cinnamon with Tropical Juices. The Pearl is yours to keep!) ) and my husband decided to order the Nautilus (Barbancourt Pango Rhum, Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Combier Crème de Pêche de Vigne Liqueur, Tropical Juices, and Falernum. (and is supposed to be for 2 people)) and we would share. We also ordered a non-alcoholic drink for my son, though I didn’t get any pictures of it, I believe he had a Schweitzer Falls (Tropical Juices and Sam’s Gorilla Grog topped with Sprite®) which he enjoyed.

Me with my Polynesian Pearl which was just as tasty as I hoped it would be. I could easily drink a few of these no problem! Sadly, the pearl glasses were not yet available to purchase as souvenirs.

The aftermath of our drinks (we bought the souvenir Nautilus glass, which is now lovingly referred to as the gravy boat). Definitely wished we had more time to spend there, but we enjoyed the time we did have, and besides, there’s always next time!

Next up we had a 6:45p dinner ADR at Olivia’s Café, where we were supposed to meet up with my Stepmother-in-law and Father-in-law, who would be semi joining us for this trip. We arrived early and checked in, but let the hostess know we were waiting for the rest of our party. The in-laws flight was supposed to arrive late afternoon, which was just enough time for them to pick up their rental car, drop their bags off at their time share, and then come meet us for dinner. Unfortunately their flight was delayed. They still arrived in enough time to join us, but were tired from their day of travel, so opted out of joining us and agreed to meet us the next evening for our scheduled dinner. Once we knew that they weren’t coming, we were still early for our reservation, but we let the hostess know to change us to a party of 3 and we were seated very shortly thereafter.

I enjoyed the décor, but found the restaurant to be louder than I expected it to be. Our service was prompt and overall good and our server was very personable. My only real complaint is that my husband ordered a Mr. Pibb, which was refilled 3 or 4 times throughout our meal, and I ordered a hot tea and was never offered more hot water, though I could have used some more. To be fair, I didn’t ask for any more, partly because I was hoping our server would offer. Since we were on the DDXDP, we were each entitled to an appetizer, an entrée, a dessert, and a non-alcoholic beverage.

To begin, they brought us a loaf of their coconut bread, which was quite tasty! Sorry, forgot to take pictures.

For our appetizers, we ordered:

Tomato-Mozzarella Salad w/ mixed greens & balsamic glaze (me)

DSCF0129-vi.jpg

This was fresh, delicious, and a huge portion for an appetizer. I ate all of it. :)

the Soup of the Day (which was a chicken verde) (husband)
DSCF0130-vi.jpg

This had a ton of stuff in it! Chicken, potatoes, celery, onions, and radishes (I believe). It was a decent soup, though could have used a squeeze of fresh lime for some depth of flavor. I ate a good portion of this as well, since my husband only wanted to taste it.

and

Green apple slices (kiddo)

DSCF0131-vi.jpg

These were standard fresh apple slices, which he enjoyed.

Entrees:

Plantation Key Pork Chop - Pork Chop topped with Smoked Gouda Fondue served with Multigrain Rice and Broccolini (me)
DSCF0135-vi.jpg

The pork chop was delicious and cooked perfectly and the smoked Gouda complemented the flavor of the pork nicely. This was my first experience with broccolini and I found it to be bitter, so not a fan. I was looking forward to trying the multigrain pilaf, but was disappointed as it was dry and some of the grains seemed undercooked.

Southernmost Buttermilk Chicken -
Mashed Potatoes, Southern Gravy, and Seasonal Vegetables (he substituted fries for the veggies) (husband)
DSCF0137-vi.jpg

Best fried chicken we’ve ever had! I don’t usually care for fried chicken, but this was a boneless breast so it was lighter than typical fried chicken and the breading was crispy and tasty. The Southern gravy was a good consistency and flavor. As I recall, the mashed potatoes and fries were fine. We enjoyed the chicken and gravy so much that we are attempting/hoping to have it added to our brunch menu for our vow renewal this December!

and

Mickey pasta w/ marinara sauce (kid)
DSCF0133-vi.jpg

I have no notes written down for how he liked this or not.

And for dessert:

Mascarpone Cheesecake w/ seasonal fruit topping (me)
DSCF0145-vi.jpg

This had a nice texture and was very rich. We both thought it was good and my husband doesn’t usually care for cheesecake.

Banana Bread Pudding Sundae served with bananas foster topping and vanilla bean ice cream (husband)
DSCF0144-vi.jpg

“OMG, so good!!!” is what I have written in my notes. The pudding was steaming hot with the ice cream on top, which was a nice combo. There was plenty of sauce, and although we were full and this was also rich, we just about finished it (didn’t finish the cheesecake).

and

Ice cream sundae w/ do it yourself toppings (hot fudge, chocolate candy buttons, and Mickey head sprinkles) (kid)
DSCF0142-vi.jpg

When he saw the do-it-yourself toppings, this dessert was met with maniacal laughter or joy!

We really enjoyed our meal here and look forward to returning. I’ve read great reviews about their breakfast as well. We are staying at OKW for a couple days in June, so I’m hoping we can fit a meal in.

Next installment: Sunday December 6 (breakfast at Artist’s Palette, lunch at Cooke’s of Dublin & Fantasy Fare food truck, and dinner at Raglan Road)

Great reviews so far - have our first ADR for B&C for our next trip. Love the look of the No Way Jose but my DD is already strongly petitioning for a kitchen sink :) Looking forward to the rest :goodvibes: think the guest paying for your first meal was a fantastic sign of respect.
