I'm thinking of joining the DVC through resale by getting a smaller point allotment (<100). As you all know, the Vero Beach prices are much cheaper than the SSR. Why would I not buy into VB at a lower rate and primarily stay at SSR? We would typically stay at off peak times so would the 4 month difference in reservation time really impact us?

Thanks!

Because, at $6.04 per point, VB has the highest annual maintenance fees!

If you want to stay at SSR, then buy into SSR. SSR has the lowest annual maintenance fees at just $4.21 per point.

I agree with this. You would be paying out so much more in maintanence fees at Vero than at SSR.

The previous posters are absolutely correct. You will pay much more in dues over the life of the contract than you will save in the original purchase price. In theory, it should be just fine to book the largest DVC at the 7 month window without too much trouble, but the extra dues would be a killer to any savings. Especially since SSR pays the lowest dues.

If you would use one of those resorts it may be worth it. I'd agree that the fees for VB make it not worth it but also giving up the 11 month window to get something can be a big minus as well and is the biggest negative IMO. I do expect HH fees to cont to climb and to rival or pass VB in the next 5-7 years but we shall see.

I'm not a "planner" in the sense that i'm booking at the 11 month or 7 month window. When I know I want to go I call a few months prior and see whats available. With someone like me its no big deal to have small contracts becuase I'm not particular as to where I stay.

However, I agree with everyone else about those maintanance fees adding up. Even though you'll get more VB points for the money, you'll end up paying more over time because of the HOA fee.
