I need help.. can anyone give me cheap Christmas craft ideas for 2nd graders... something easy and not expensive... thanks for any help..

would love to see ideas on ornaments .. like snowman, santas, reindeer, angels ... any super easy ideas.

My daughter brought home this ornament when she was in preschool - I did it in one of my sons' classes for kind. and one for first grade. It's very simple, cheap and they turn out super cute.

You need pipecleaners, red and white clear pony beads, and some ribbon. Basically, they're just beading a candy cane ornament.

I started the first bead - but 2nd graders could probably do it themselves. They take a pipecleaner and put one pony bead on and kind of wrap the pipecleaner around that bead so it can't come off. They then alternate either one red, one white, or two red, two white (depending on how big you want the ornament - you can also pre-cut the pipecleaners to make them smaller). Then they wrap the other end of the pipecleaner around the last pony bead they put on. Bend the beaded pipecleaner into the shape of a candy cane and tie on a satin ribbon. Makes a very pretty ornament for the tree!

Paint stick snowmen are easy and inexpensive to make. I've made them with my class more than once. I go to Wal-Mart and ask if they'll give me enough paint sticks for my class. They always do and never charge me. I tried at Home Depo once and they would not give them to me for free. I cut and spray paint the sticks white ahead of time. I also draw a line with pencil to show the kids where to paint the hat black. I use ribbon instead of fishing line. I also use wood glue, or if there are other helpers you could set up a few glue guns with adult supervision to help glue on the buttons.

Here's a link to show you what they look like and how they are made:

Things we have done in the past when my kiddos where younger.......

-"painting" on dark colored card stock with shaving cream. As the shaving cream dried it became harden with a soft feel. We painted with q-tips and made mountains, trees, etc. The kids loved it.

-we made snowman: put a all while tube sock on 2L soda bottle or 64oz juice bottle. Using felt scraps we made scarves, eyes, black top hat, buttons and twigs for arms. Each one was an original.

-cutting out snowflakes is always fun & decorating them with glitter pens

-check out Family Fun for other ideas.

CD ornaments are super easy. Just buy a pack of inexpensive blank CD's. Hot glue a ribbon hanger to the less shiny side then let the kids decorate the shiny side. Can be decorated with many different things. Sharpies, foamies, pom poms, glued on candy canes, a photo of each child, ect. Bring a variety of stuff and let the kids use their imaginations.

Make a bunch of salt dough ornaments ahead of time and have kids paint them. They're super cheep and easy to make and look really cute when finished.

My DH made the pinecone trees last year with his class. They came out really cute:

Just got this from a friend....love it!! Comes out so nice and SOOO easy.

Gold cups turned upside down. Hole in top. Really bottom of cup. Use a pipe cleaner and a jingle bell. Thread pipe cleaner through with a pony bead on it to keep it in place. Jingle bell goes inside the cup. Decorate with stickers, or anything really. (Holiday foam cutouts, etc.) Looks - and sounds - like a Christmas bell!!!

Take a clean empty small jar with label removed. (baby food jar is perfect). Glue a small waterproof item to the inside of the jar lid. Example snowman, Santa, tree, angel etc. Let set until dried. Glue gun is the fastest. Now add some glitter to the Jar, I prefer the white sparkle glitter looks more like snow. But any color is fine. Fill with water, being careful not to overfill taking in consideration you will be adding the cap with your figure. Now you can attach the lid tightly to the jar. I think you are best adding some glue to the inside of the lid or the edge of the jar prior to screwing on the lid. This makes it more permanent. You can also decorate the lid by painting or adding some ribbon or beads on the sides. Flip over and shake.

You now have a snowglobe which can be personalized for each child by whatever they chose to put inside. This can be a fun project every year as they can put their name and year on the bottom of the lid and this can turn into a wonderful tradition and collection. Which they they can also be passed down.:goodvibes

Another variation on the snowglobe idea:
Put half water and half vegetable oil. Since water and oil won't mix, the kids will have fun seeing the "bubbles" floating around.

And if you put food coloring in the oil (and mix it in really good), you'll have colored bubbles.

My class has been making the candy canes out of beads and pipecleans and they are looking gerat!

You could also make ornaments from jar lids, oatmeal containers are great for this, but any would do. Drill a hole in the top for a ribbor and have them decorate the inside with glitter, foamies, stickers, etc. You could also do with this the tin lids from frozen concentrate juice.
