Easy Bake Ovens

I don't have girls, so I don't have one. But, according to Consumer Reports, they say they work OK, but require adult supervision. Since they require supervision they recommend just using a real oven and baking real things.

This is what I do with DD. I thought about getting her one, but figured it wold just be easier for us to use the real thing. :confused3

It would make a nice gift though. :)

When my DD12 was about that age I thought about getting her one, but decided to get her real kitchen equipment instead. She'll be able to take it with her when she goes out on her own. The first thing I got her was a cast iron Mickey head muffin pan from the Disney catalog.

I love this idea for DD when she gets older. :)

They have one that makes ice cream? Why wasn't I told?!

Oh I have fond memories of my easy bake oven! It was in the early 70's and it was that turquoise color. I remember making all kinds of yummy treats and serving them up to my Dad and him telling me how yummy they were! My DD had one about five years ago. She liked it but after awhile it got old to her and she moved on to something new.

My daughter loved her Easy Bake Oven and I think 8 (even younger) is a great age. I never had one when I was lil, though I really wanted one. :( I did play with my cousins all the time though.

Anyway, you could also print out some of these recipes to give the girl's mom. It's a lot cheaper than her buying the replacements all the time. If you don't like this site, run a google search. There are lots of recipes out there. I used to have some good ones on my old computer, but I lost all that long ago.

My sisiter said she likes it but the refills are expensive. You can also use your own mixes to bake with.
Just a Fyi, there is also a website that has easy bake oven mix recipes. You can just make the dry mix and then it gives you directions on preparing the batter. I'll have to see if I can find it.

ETA...looks like Nance beat me to the punch....that's what I get for not reading the entire thread before responding ;)

Hey, that's how Bobby Flay claimed he started is with an Easy Bake oven. You might be fostering a budding Chef ;) I say 'Go for it'.

I loved loved loved my oven when I was that age. I also had the juicer- would only make like 1/4 cup of juice but it didn't matter! It would be nice to have one now- then I can make a snack size cake for myself instead of a big one!

Hmmm....where is the nearest Toys R Us????

I LOVED my e-z bake oven when I was 8. It was that retro turquoise color in the late 60's early 70's. I think I may buy one on ebay just to re-live my childhood.
I'm sure your niece would love it.

I loved my easybake oven! Can't wait for DD's to ask for one, DD4 might be ready by next christmas. Also if you watch the sale flyers usually near christmas they are one of the big sale things, Walmart had them a couple years back for $5 on Black Friday, and I think last year it was $7 on that day.

We have one that we barely used because things were too small and DS wanted to use the real oven and real dishes and real ..... you get the idea.
Is your neice a mature 8 or young 8. I think 8 is a bit old to start with easy bake but that's just me.

My boys have grown up with one!!! :) I loved it so much growing up, I said one Christmas, what the heck? So every rainy day, they pull it out and have a blast. Its not just for girls! :goodvibes

DD still uses hers and she's 9 (she'll be 10 in January). For Christmas she got some books written specifically for the EasyBake ovens that use real ingredients (one came with special measuring spoons for a "smidge" and a "dash"). She loves making stuff with that.

As for having to monitor her, it's much safer than the regular oven and I still watch her but she has more "independence" than doing the big oven where I still put everything in and take everything out. With the EasyBake she does that on her own.

i swear i was tramatized when i younger because as much as i begged i never got an easy bake oven!! haah

I too constantly remind my mother that I was scarred for life because I never got an Easy Bake Oven. I asked for one every year for Christmas. My mothers defense is that if I wanted to bake, I could use the real oven. I would love to buy one for my niece, but I am afraid she wouldn't have the proper supervision from her parents. If the baby is a girl, you can bet she will have one when she is old enough though!

I loved my Easy Bake Oven....in fact my Dmom bought me one when I was about 23 as well because I talked about it so much!

Same here! I wanted one so badly, but mom said that our oven and stove worked perfectly well, so I could just use those! I was intensely jealous of my cousin's and friends who had them.

Perhaps we should start a support group for adult women who were denied Easy Bake Ovens as children???

However, my first child is due in April, and BY GOD, boy or girl, they will have an Easy Bake Oven!!!

hahahaha! When the Easy Bake trauma comes up, my mom always points out that at least you got the Snoopy Sno Cone machine. She forgets to point out though that it was on my list for 5 or 6 years straight before I got it (and then only because it was on sale). I did have the Lite Brite though, and that I loved...........
