Eastern questions on docking and taxi

As I am reading up on St. Thomas and St. Maarten, both places note 2 places for docking.

St. Thomas mentions Havensight as the first dock with more docking at Crown Bay when it is crowded.

St. Maarten mentions a newer pier and also out farther in Great Bay taking in tenders when it gets crowded.

Am I right that the two docks are Havensight and the main pier at
St. Maarten? Has anyone docked at Crown Bay? Or does the Magic always dock in the same place?

In regards to the taxis on St. Maarten, according to the shopping in paradise guide it says that fares from the ship to Orient Bay are $18 for 1 or 2 people one way. Does this mean for 1 it is $18 and the second person is also another $18 or does it mean that for up to 2 people it is a total of $18. Also, does it get cheaper for the 3rd person? We're trying to figure out if it is cheaper over all to do by ourselves or go with the listed excursion.

Thanks, Lorie

The Magic has always docked at St. Maarten since the pier opened in January, 2001. They have never, to my knowledge, had to anchor and tender since then. If they were to do so, the tenders would land at the dock where the water taxi now lands at downtown Philipsburg.

At St. Thomas, the Magic either anchors at Havensight, or it anchors in the Charlotte Amalie Harbor and tenders to downtown Charlotte Amalie. The Magic can not dock at Crown Bay as the slips there can only accommodate ships that are much smaller.

As for taxis at St. Maarten, it's always cheaper to do it on your own.
