HI,
I just wanted to see what liquor finds people on past Eastern trips have come accorss.

In my paperwork I think one island I get to bring home more liquor than the other.

Not to sound like a lush, but a long while ago there was a thread about finds on the island.

And don't forget about the Guavaberry Liqueur!

It's to die for! :teeth:

We were hoping to get a great bottle of champagne (sp?) at a good price. We couldn't find anything in Nassau, but hoped we could find some on our Eastern cruise. After all, St. Maarten has a french side.

In the market area at the dock, there is a woman that makes her own! I found it a lot better than the commercial stuff! Plus she personalizes her bottles!

The Guavaberry is what I read about.

Is it in St. Marteen.

How many bottles can you legally take home?

Yum Yum

You can take home as many as you want, but you may be subject to duty. As for how many you can take home duty free,

"1 liter is the base exemption purchased on board the ship or in St. Maarten, an additional four liters is exempt if purchased in St. Thomas providing at least one liter is produced in St. Thomas U.S.V.I. (Cruzan Rum or Local Specialty Liquors)."

Oh my that looks SOOO GOOD!! How much was that? I'm think that's a fabulous souvenir to bring home for friends and family!!

Hello NYDisneyMom--

I purchased my bottle of Guavaberry at the official Guavaberry Emporium on Front Street. The bottle was only $12.95 which I thought was a steal!

The only problem, I bought the bottle last May and ran out before January! Guess I'll be stocking up this May!

The shop also lets you sample some of their products. They'll give you a straight "shot" of the Guavaberry or a sample cup of a Guavaberry Coloda. These are to die for! :) The web site has lots of other great recipes also. The Island Queen, champagne and Guavaberry Liqueur, also to die for!

And, as you mentioned, the bottles are really cool and make great souvenirs ! I still have mine!

sshhh - Guavaberry coladas are the best, have been drinking them as far back as I could remember!!! Cheri's on the Dtuch side makes great coladas. You can even use the Guavaberry as cough medicine if you need to!!!!;) Just as long as there is enough Guavaberry on the island from 4/17-4/30, I will let the secret out!!

PS - for those historians - the building that holds the Guavaberry Emporium used to be a nice restaurant called the West Indian Tavern, it was great, it is also one of the oldest buildings on Front Street.

I was not even thinking about bringing home liquor, since we're not real big drinkers -- but I do love my coladas and daiqueries in the summer!

So...what's the best way to pack bottles and get them home on the plane? I'm afraid of a big mess!

:scared:

This Guavaberry stuff sounds yummy! Anyone care to describe the taste? I didn't even think of making a liquor shopping list. :teacher: Tell me more please! :listen:

Has anyone purchased Dom Perignon on St. Maarten of St. Thomas- if so, which is less expensive? Thanks!!

Bump! I am looking for some Dom Perignon also! St. Maarten is part French, so you would think there would be some on the island at a good price.

Sorry to say, but although St. Martin is a French territory, you won't find great prices on French wines there. I was surprised, but even after checking in a couple liquor and wine stores, I didn't find anything worth lugging home. There is a nice little wine shop just off the main drag in Marigot, with a couple of French guys offering tastings. The resturant Le Tastevin in Grand Case, on the other hand, was a little slice of France at a reasonable price. They are open for lunch, so you can go in the afternoon and still have dinner on the ship. Very good quality, authentically French but still creative, just a lot of fun. Our lunch took three hours, spent marveling at the view (the restuarant overlooks the beach) and the food. They have a menu gourmet which is a tasting menu of small portions of many dishes, accompanied with well-chosen wines. Yum.

We purchased 2 bottles in St. Martin at the Emporium after sampleing the coladas. We didn't buy enough. I made some Guavaberry Colada's for a get together and then the next time I went to get my bottles out, I only had about 2 inches left in only one bottle. Hubby had dipped into it without me. Needless to say, I was quite pi$$ed:mad:

I am posting this question here 'cause its related to the amount of alcohol you bring back duty free- We are crusing next January for the first time and although we very rarely drink ,we have friends that we'd like to bring back some liquor and cigarettes for-

question though- the amount of liquor/cigarettes that is duty free is per person, right? well, if there is myself and DH, as well as DS age 15, DD age 13 and DS age 8, - are we able to bring back the max for 5 people's worth, or do the kids not count since they are not legal age?

thanks for your help!

Cathym

It is based on those of legal age for the amount of alcohol. However you can use all 5 people of the money aspect. So if it is $1200 per person yours would be $6000 worth of merchandise. But only 8-10 bottles because there is only 2 over 21. Hope this helps.
