On St. Maarten the Golden Eagle Catamaran is a fun trip: Sailing, Snorkeling, beach party and finaly a sail party all in one trip.
You can go to Orient Beach on your own. Taxi each way about $8 per person ($80), rent a couple of chairs and an umbrella as a "base camp" about $10. Whatever water sports you want to do would be extra (sail board, jet ski, para sailing, water trampoline, etc). For about $100 in base cost its a lot cheeper than
DCL's trip to Orient (but you don't get the lunch - or you can spend the extra $225 (for 5 of you) on a fantastic lunch!!
Orient Beach is in a beautiful setting. The water is "active" (read small waves / swells 2-6 feet). The water is warm. The sand on the beach is nice.
Because its a "clothing optional" beach some people won't go there. Its mostly topless. Facing the water the farther right you go the more nudity you'll see.
Especially with small children - it's no big deal - they can deal with it (eew gross). Teenagers under the influence of hormones can even deal with the nudity after a few minutes of "Wow, would you look at that

". And everyone finds out that nudity isn't what you see in Playboy - the real deal is somewhat scarry - "would you cover that up!

(gravity ALWAYS wins-and to much sun makes you look like old dried up leather) Or that it's humorous (we saw a large white guy that forgot that the sun NEVER shown there and didn't take proper SPF protection - I have no idea of how he sat down for a good week) We went with several kids age 8 -14 and none of them have turned out to be scared for life because of it.
