We are just about ready to book our trip for next year! I keep hearing about the overwhelming crowds at Easter time. I also hear about the awful heat in the summer. Unfortunately, this is about the only time of the year we can go.

We think we can handle the heat by breaking the day up and going back to the hotel during the afternoon. (We would be there June 24 - July1st) Would this be a better option than trying to fight the crowds during Easter break?

First of all, welcome to these boards. I see that this is your first post. :D You'll find lots of friendly, smart people on the boards who are always willing to help answer questions, give advice, etc.

Your decision may boil down to which one you as a family can tolerate more - heat or crowds. Neither one is much fun, but different people react to them in different ways.

For me, I would much rather navigate the crowds and work with Fastpasses, early entry mornings, etc. in order to manage the more crowded situation at Easter. I'd much rather NOT deal with oppressive heat, because I do not respond well to hot sticky conditions. I became irritable, cranky, and probably not much fun to be around, yes, even at Disney World!

Now other people may vastly prefer to deal with the heat but avoid the crowds at all costs. So I'd say to consider your family (ages of kids may play in here) and which factor they will tolerate better. Then go with that, and start planning for a fabulous trip. Whichever time you choose, you'll have an awesome time! :D

If it relieves your mind any, we've done Easter and we've done mid-June and both were fabulous trips. The strategy was the same for both---get to the parks AT OPENING so you can get as much in by noon as you can. During Easter that helped us beat the crowds and in June it helped us beat the heat. We swam in the afternoon and then went back in the evening with no pressure because we took care of the must-do's in the morning. So I think you'll be O.K. either time, as long as you're well-planned! Good luck in making such a fun decision!!

I don't like crowds, but I'd much rather have them than the heat. Crowds + heat = yuck IMHO. I am not at my best in really humid, hot weather. For that reason, we try to avoid June, July and August, but we have school issues preventing us from traveling to WDW at other times now.

It is definitely possible to have a terrific time during really hot, crowded days at WDW (in my salad days, I zipped around the parks in July!), but it requires planning, fortitude and a bit of luck. Disney is full of wonderful things to see and do even if you don't see one attraction. However, at the prices being charged, you want to get the most for your $$$ and at the same time, keep your stress level (and blood pressure  ) down! Astute planning - and some flexibility - allow this.

Choose the situation that works best for you and your group and plan accordingly. Disney is so wonderful you will have a fabulous time and forget the heat or crowds and only remember the wonderful memories......and wear sunscreen in that sun! That's one memory you don't need......;)

hi disfan ~

I must agree w/buckeye. As long as you get the "must-dos" done in the early AM and take advangtage of fast pass, your trip will be great either time.

That said, we just returned from our first June Disney trip (June 24 - 30). We have always been there for our Easter break in April (or the end of March). We will not return in June, July, August.... It was substantially more humid and a bit warmer than April. There were thunderstorms 3 afternoons w/major downpours. When we visit in the spring, there is far less rain & humidity. I cannot remember it raining during our spring trips.

To my surprise, the crowds were heavier this June trip than at Easter! I could not believe how many people were in the parks!! Many people from Florida & the Carolinas.

Maybe it all depends on where you are from. We're from the northeast, so our springtime is cool & often doesn't arrive until the end of May. After a long winter, a springtime warm vacation is so badly needed! Our summers, though, are just beautiful!

So, my vote goes to a Disney visit at springtime. We've booked our flights for next Easter, now just need to decide on which disney resort! We visited the Wilderness Lodge ~ ate at Whispering Canyon ~ and that place is just absolutely gorgeous! Decisions, decisions....
