Easter Baskets - Do you use them?

I love Easter Baskets! I make them for my DS and my DH! (oh yeah and one for me, too!) It doesn't hurt that I work for the company that makes PEEPS now, too! I'll be up to my eyeballs in Easter candy and loving it! I will probably make Easter baskets or gift bags for all of our cousins this year, too!

Mmmm ... Peeps ... :cloud9:

My kids get baskets with a few dollar-store items for spring and a chocolate bunny, which DH insists is necessary. I don't do anything expensive. We usually do an egg hunt that Saturday at church, which gives them plenty of candy.

Grownups like Easter baskets too! I remember one of the sweetest things DH did when we were first married. One of our first Easters he got a dozen plastic eggs, candy, and an Easter basket for me. He stayed up late and hid the eggs in our tiny apartment and let me hunt for them the next morning. He was so sweet and I was so touched!:lovestruc

p.s. I hate the plastic grass! It gets everywhere and I'm finding it until Halloween!

My family still does baskets and we are the ages of 29, 27, 26, and 22! My mom puts some candy, hair ties, mascara, or other small things in our basket. DH cannot eat sugar or starch, so he gets bananas or other things that he will enjoy. We still use the same baskets that we got when we were kids which probably have the same Easter grass and plastic eggs. My cousins all get together for an egg hunt too and we are all between the ages of 19-29! The parents love to do it!

Skip the grass and reuse shredded paper / tissue paper, or save it from year to year. Doesn't take up much room and is better for the environment!

We do May Day baskets, Easter is a different focus. I get functional "half peck" baskets from the craft store and line them with a bandana, then fill them with chocolate filled eggs, hardboiled eggs, crayon filled eggs (real egg, with wax poured in), kraft eggs filled with Annie's cheddar bunnies and graham bunnies (snack crackers shaped like bunnies), string cheese, laughing cow cheese, fancy soda (elderflower or ginger beer), flowers, and then Spring things that they need like a sundress, rainboots, or things like chalks, ribbons, bubble "swords" and jump ropes. We usually use those baskets to pieces for berry picking, autumn centerpieces, and Christmas gift wrap.

For adults, I'll throw in fancy egg shaped soaps in a craft store nest, pretty canteens ($5 at Michaels), seeds, gardening almanacs, etc.

My sons are 20 and 14. I do give them baskets. I bought each one (basket) when they were born and still use them. I always give them their favorite candy but now that they are older I put their favorite body wash and deodorant in the baskets. They both use a different flavor of Old Spice, after hours and swagger. The 20yo appreciates not having to pay for it himself. They look for eggs too, if you can believe it lol

Is there money in them?

The Easter Bunny still brings me a basket.

My mom made baskets for us all through college. I still have the basket that she used for me and will use it for DH & I on Easter.

I don't like to give the kids too much candy either so we do a small chocolate bunny, some jelly beans and some peanut butter eggs (because they are my favorite :) ) and then add things like a DVD or video game, some hot wheels & playdough for the youngest, a gift card for the oldest and legos for both. Smaller things like you would use as stocking stuffers at Christmas.

One thing I always have in their basket is a new toothbrush and toothpaste. We also use the same baskets every year.

I love doing Easter Baskets. After 6 long weeks of Lent we start the Easter season off with Church, dinner with family and our baskets. I actually enjoy Easter more than Christmas. I have a very difficult time with Lent and welcome all that Easter Sunday brings.
I do big baskets for everyone. I am actually doing my DD26 today. I am terrible with the mail so I am going to mail it out with a card that has to go out to her tomorrow. It will be wrapped so she can open up on Easter.
I put all kinds of things in them. I do not like little trinkets so those are out. I usually put in things like lipgloss, spring outfits, a disney giftcard or other card. I do very little candy. We do sunflower seeds, cashews, granola bars etc. There will be a chocolate bunny too.
I enjoy it and the kids look forward to it.

I have a 2 boys (3 and 4 yr old). I always try to get them items that they will need for the summer. When my oldest was 1 and youngest was 4 months old we bought them a wagon I had been wanting. Past few years I would by animal crackers, videos, crayons/books, fruit snacks, beach chairs, and etc. This year we will be going to the beach alot so I have picked up sun hats, sunblock, swimming shoes, fishermans shoes (croc style), sunglasses, sandbucket with shovels, towels, and maybe a new pair of swimming trunks.I try to encourage the grandparents not to buy candy but they usually defy my wishes...lol. We always have an easter egg hunt, this year I am filling the eggs with money for them to put in thier piggy bank. I am trying to teach them to save money. We don't talk about the Easter Bunny though, we explain what the meaning of Easter Holiday means and why we celebrate it.

I re use the same easter baskets. My girls are 2 and 5. One is getting a toy story theme easter basket. And the other Princess and the Frog. The dvd's are something I would buy anyway.

So I will just put them in. I'm also putting in a set of Littlest Pet shop tripplets each. The toys story one will have a 10.00 Jessie and Ham. The Princess Tiana one will have the doll I think that is around 25.00. Plus a small amount of candy. I would rather buy them one or 2 toys they will play with then a bunch of 1.00 stuff the could care less about.

How cool!!! Is it true they make the Peeps a year in advance????????

The Easter Bunny still brings me a basket.

LOL yes I do put some money in plastic eggs. My parents would hide eggs. When the boys were done they were $20 richer. They never did that for me or my brother, go figure.

:daisy:Do you make up Easter Baskets for your kids? My kids are 21, 20, 17, 11 & 11. Part of me likes doing the baskets. The other part of me - the one that doesn't want them eating candy and doesn't want to spend the money on the candy would love to stop making baskets.

For those that do make up baskets for your kids, what do you put in them when they get older? I mean, this is not Christmas and I don't want to start giving them real presents in their baskets.:rolleyes1

If you do not do baskets, do you get your kids something else on Easter?

When we were growing up, we always had Easter baskets, but I don't remember when I stopped getting one. Probably when I got married:cutie:

No kids in my house, but I do make a joint 'basket' for DH and I. We don't eat candy (:hippie:), so this year I'm going to put in a $25 Disney trip related gift card (Disney, Southwest or Alamo Rental Car- money we're going to spend anyway :upsidedow...) some of our favorite granola bars (Maple Nut Clif Bars for DH, Larabars for me), 2 $1 scratch off lottery tickets, and a couple of other small things that I haven't figured out yet.

My oldest will br 19 on April 7. He gets a basket (the same basket I had when I was a kid:) with some candy, a t-shirt or swimsuit, flip-flops, sunglasses, a book or magazine, stuff like that. The younger ones get basically the same with maybe a bit more candy. Oh..and toothbrushes..always a good idea at candy-getting holidays.

My oldest is 11 and yes, we do baskets at our home and probably always will....maybe even after they are out of the house and married...my parents still give dh & I a basket plus all 3 grandchildren....your children are only around for so long...and I think it is one of the "traditions" or memory makers in life....we do small Easter Egg Hunt, open baskets, have dinner and GO TO CHURCH ALL MORNING LONG!!! We get up very early for church, attend sunrise service, then eat breakfast at church, have regular service and then go home and eat again....lol!!!!

This year, however we will not be home for the first time ever....BECAUSE WE WILL BE AT DISNEY!!!!:banana::banana:

Hope Everyone enjoys their Easter!

Until I read this, I had forgotten my first husband and I used to make baskets for each other...usually little stuff (I always got him flashlights or leatherman tools)and our favorite candy.
For my kids, we usually do dollar tree stuff because they love all that junkie stuff that I won't buy them the rest of the year. Last year, I even used easter gift bags from there instead of baskets. We usually limit the candy we put in them. Thier Papa Gary always gets them a storebought easter basket too.

Our dd's are 11 and 4. We fill their baskets with candy, toys, DVDs, lipglosses, etc. Then we go to church and they get more candy during the egg hunt!

I stopped getting baskets when I moved out of the house....but if i came back to celebrate Easter with my family, I got a basket. It usually consisted of candy and one "larger" item like a barbie or a shirt...depending on my age.

My son usually gets a small toy and some candy, nothing too exciting.

I do Easter baskets. They don't get too much candy in them. They get more stuff than candy.

Let's see, in my 16 year old's basket I'll probably put an i-tunes card, some socks, a bottle of armor all, subway gift card, maybe a new t-shirt or Abercrombie boxers (he loves them, but I hate spending $20 on a pair of boxers that aren't a gift!) and then gum and candy.
