:daisy:Do you make up Easter Baskets for your kids? My kids are 21, 20, 17, 11 & 11. Part of me likes doing the baskets. The other part of me - the one that doesn't want them eating candy and doesn't want to spend the money on the candy would love to stop making baskets.

For those that do make up baskets for your kids, what do you put in them when they get older? I mean, this is not Christmas and I don't want to start giving them real presents in their baskets.:rolleyes1

If you do not do baskets, do you get your kids something else on Easter?

When we were growing up, we always had Easter baskets, but I don't remember when I stopped getting one. Probably when I got married:cutie:

For my 20 yo neice who is away at college, I am sending a basket with some jelly beans, some skittles, a pair of fuzzy socks, a three pack of purse size kleenex which have cute wrappers and a purse size hand sanitizer from Bath & Body Works. I also put in a Disney Princess coloring book but that is because she used to color as a stress reliever and am thinking a bit of mindless activity just be exams begin might be a good thing.

My mom still sends me a little "basket" each year containing a small stuffy and some little silliness. I love getting it each year. My DH makes me on too with a few sweets a stuffed friend and some other things, On year it was the Sims another Balls of Sugar and Cream cotton that he thought looked like pretty eggs when in the basket. I say keep it up especially with the 11 year olds but maybe get the Chocolate Bunny then spend what you would have spent on the other junk on something nice for each basket, A book, a gift card, certificates for the movies or even better certificates for some time with you!

I still do Easter baskets for my kids. I absolutely will not put things like video games in them, though. For us they are to celebrate spring's arrival so they only get things for outdoors in them (although I am going to break that a little this year and refill their McDonald's GC's because they love them). I don't have a problem giving them candy, though, they really don't eat that much in their everyday lives so I don't care.

My kids aren't quite as old as yours, they still like things like kites and jump ropes, but this year I think I'm going to just get one big thing like a bounce house or water slide for all of them and some candy. (I haven't decided yet, I have another thread about that).

My DS 17 and DD 14 will each get a basket. There will be a small chocolate bunny, some jelly beans, maybe some other candy (not much). I always put Disney gift cards because we go each april and in the summer. It's money that would be spent on them anyway. I may add a swimsuit or outfit for summer. That's about it.

No, we don't do baskets as Easter is about Jesus, plus we don't eat candy in our home. We do get small gifts like books, gardening tools/seeds or crafts. They are spring presents and things that we do together as a family. DD6 really looks forward to getting her seeds as we have fun with our vegetable garden.

Tiger :)

We don't do Easter baskets, nor anything with the Easter Bunny. We try to focus the holiday on the resurrection of Jesus.

We do Easter baskets, except for the older ones that are in college. But their Grammy sends them boxes of goodies, so they aren't deprived . Easter baskets in our household have small gifts, like coloring books or a Beanie baby (when they were big) and candy. Very low key.

My DS23's old basket was made by my Grandmother when he was a baby. I've got it put away for his 1st baby. (Which I hope does not come for at least 10 years.)

I think your 11 year olds would really miss the basket! That is still really young. You could make the cut off 18, if you want to do fewer baskets this year and next.

My DS11 will be getting some candy (not too much) and a lego set. If your 11yo's don't like legos, maybe choose a different small toy or craft, or a new book, or even a small i-tunes gift card with some candy.

my DH and his sister used to get fruit in their Easter baskets. Lots of pictures of forced smiles. :rotfl2:

We hide coins in plastic eggs. DNiece doesn't do well on too much sugar.

This year I am thinking about doing a swim theme basket.
Towel, goggles, suit, and maybe some new rubber duckies for bathtime.

My kids are 12 and 10. Yes, we still do baskets. I did cut back on the candy years ago because I was the one that ended up eating all of it. :sad2:
Now, I usually give the kids something they can use for summer: swim goggles, flip flops, sunglasses, whatever they don't already have...
I can see how it's going to be hard to know when to quit. I'd probably keep it going as long as they are "living at home" which might include college too.

When my children were little I bought small decorative baskets, I have reused the same ones for at least 10 years. Because they are small a few items of candy, one bunny a few eggs and it seems full.

We did an egg hunt, then the weather just seemed to never cooperate and we went to indoors. In the eggs are a few jelly beans, in a few are quarters.

We have fun with it, don't over do or over spend, and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus also.

I still do one and always will. My mom still does one for us too. I don't get candy except for a few things they love. I make one for DH and our dogs as well! I put in socks, gum, mints, gift cards, iTune cards, phone cards, a DVD, etc. The dogs get a few new toys and a box of gourmet biscuits and some chew bones.

This year, I'm doing a Littlest Pet Shop Easter Egg hunt with my kids. I got some LPS valentines/stickers and some LPS toys on really great Target clearance. Plus, I will pick up 1 chocolate bunny each, and maybe a little bit of M&Ms or something like that. Probably will spend about $25 for both kids when all is said and done. We reuse our baskets and don't go overboard with the candy.

My mother-in-law still makes baskets for her sons (35 and 33)...

My sons are 20 and 14. I do give them baskets. I bought each one (basket) when they were born and still use them. I always give them their favorite candy but now that they are older I put their favorite body wash and deodorant in the baskets. They both use a different flavor of Old Spice, after hours and swagger. The 20yo appreciates not having to pay for it himself. They look for eggs too, if you can believe it lol

I love doing baskets. We got them as long as we lived at home. There are other ideas besides candy. Think about other food treats. Nuts, fruit, gum, snack packs etc. If candy is a rare treat,it can not hurt to put a little in there as well. DS always gets a new t-shirt. Gonna need some new spring clothes anyway. Feel in with other need objets if you must, tooth brushes, socks.

fun spring toys are fun for the younger ones. Water guns etc. What about 5.00 gift cards to starbucks for the older ones?

Movies can be found low cost.

If you decide not to do them, be sure to tell the kids ahead of time. I think they all would be very disapointed.

:cutie:I guess I'll stick to making up the baskets. I do enjoy doing them, it's just I felt a little silly doing them for the kids that were almost adults. :rotfl: You are right, they would be looking around for their baskets. Think I'll put less candy and just get a better kind.

For those that don't do baskets because of religious observances, do you color eggs? We still do that - I probably will color eggs even when my kids are grown and moved out, lol! :goodvibes

We love to do Easter Baskets!:cheer2: ( I love all Holidays!) We will be in Disney this year for Easter and I am trying to find some Disney oriented things for there baskets this year!:rotfl: For dd 3 1/2, it will be easy, but for ds 13 I am lost! I am not into lots of candy, but am thinking of adding some snacks for the parks!

I don't do anything for my kids for Easter, however the bunny brings them baskets. ;)

They usually have bubbles, chalk, sometimes a small game, some candy, always a small (but good quality) chocolate bunny and usually a bath wash or boday spray. This year as they are all older, I would guess that the bunny will add a bunch of pins for trading on our Disney trip, some light up shoe laces and some cute socks.

We leave thei baskets our the night before with some carrots and the bunny finds them, fills them, and hides them and leave the kids a note that sends them on a scavenger hunt throught the house to find their baskets and also leaves plastic eggs full of change (for their Disney spending money fund) for them to find. We also love to color eggs. My kids are getting older but still are happy when the bunny visits.

We do baskets, but this year, we are doing backpacks with all Disney, like autograph book, pen, lanyard, pins, camera, glow sticks, and other things they are going to need for our trip
