Hi all. We're not candy eaters... any ideas on "other" things to put in the Easter Baskets this year that aren't $$$??

I was thinking:
Small $5-$10 gift cards to places we go already (Chipotle, Starbucks, Amazon, etc)
Fruit
$1 scratch-off lottery tickets
Fruit Leathers or Larabars
Travel-Size items for upcoming trips

Other ideas?

cheap little jewelry, hair things, money, arts and crafts supplies

How about a book or magazine.

For younger children-bubbles, chalk, ball, etc. Weather's going to get better give them things to do outside.

a couple years ago, I did a "garden" themed basket for my older daughter...put little gardening gloves in it, gardening tools, bucket, a foam thing for her to kneel on, seeds, gardening hat, etc...she LOVED it!

Every year I make my niece and nephew who are now 5 and 2 an Easter basket. With the family being so big by the end of Easter they each have 5 baskets of candy and nonsense. This year I am just going to get them a few little toys. There are these plastic dolls with snap on clothes that the 2 year old loves and the boy will get a DS game!

I don't know how old your kids are, mine are 19 and 17 (yes, they still get an Easter Basket).

I like to put a Disney gift card (they get those for every holiday). Also, some beef jerky and shoe string potatoes, new headbands and stuff for the hair, maybe a dvd (I'm thinking the Muppets for this year).

Can't think of anything else off hand, I haven't even started on the basket yet for this year.

...I don't have any kids... just for DH and me :thumbsup2

Easter baskets have turned into Christmas @ our house... And I'm not happy about it!!!!

Went "basket" shopping yesterday... and spent $135 on 2 baskets!!!! I don't like doing loads of Candy and refuse to by "junk" that is never played it... ended up getting: Silly string, sunglasses, swimsuits, dvds, small under $10 toys (bath toys, barbies, etc)

For DH I get books, magazines, bottle of wine, his favorite Peppridge Farm cookies and a Starbucks and/or Subway gift card.:goodvibes

Looking at the tag under your name, how about some new Lime Green Mickey Head tags! Maybe luggage tags, lanyard tags...

Glow in the dark stuff and puzzle/word find books from the dollar store for your next trip.

Well since I thought it was kids I was going to say sidewalk chalk but since it is for hubby .......hmmmm I could be naughty here:rolleyes1

Ok what about a Tshirt for the trip/new swim trunks/magazine for trip.

Or fuzzy handcuffs?:rotfl2:

DD11's (almost 12) basket this year has:
- A makeup bag set. I got this at the Target Xmas 70% off sale. It's a bigger bag for travel + a smaller purse size bag. Takes up a whole lot of room in the basket - perfect! :rotfl:
- Some basic makeup. I'm just starting to let her wear some. I picked up a couple of ELF eyeshadow sets at the Target Xmas sale, and added a few other basic items like blush, brushes and an eyelash curler. I also got a bunch of free samples from Everyday Minerals for base, and I'll add an IOU for a full-size bottle once we figure out which shade matches her best. I'll go cheap on stuff like eyeshadow and blusher for her until she gets things figured out, but I want to start her off with a good base that matches her skin tone properly and is easy to apply properly.
- A funky mirror that has a bendy stem that you can wrap around things. Should be good for her locker at school. Also got this at the Target Xmas 70% off sale - do you see a theme developing??
- A couple of small bottles of bubble bath from the Target Dollar spot
- A couple of smalls "mind bender" wood puzzle things. I think I actually got these at the Target Xmas 75% off sale two years ago...
- A bunch of packs of gum that I've been picking up as there are good sales/coupons. DD is a gum addict.
- A couple of packs of notecards from the Target Dollar spot. She's actually a great letter writer. Much bettter than me!
- A couple of big cookies and creme chocolate bars. 70% off - who cares if they have nutcrackers on the packaging?!

As you can tell, I like to shop for Easter baskets during the after Christmas sales. It saves me a TON. I got all of the above for less than $30. That number is still outrageous in my mind for an Easter basket, but it should get her off to a good start on the makeup road. Boo hoo - my baby is growing up!

All I need to add is a Chocolate bunny, and the basket will be set. And that's going to have to be a small one because the basket is already stuffed. I will put some other candy into eggs. One or two eggs may get a dollar or so, but I don't go crazy on the eggs anymore like I used to. I do have a couple of Hexbugs that will probably make it into the eggs too. (yup, Target Xmas 70% off sale! They were in ornaments - I'll just take them out)

ETA: Sorry, missed the post about your basket being for DH. Guess none of the above applies!! LOL

then don't do it :confused3 but it seems you got good stuff that you would need anyway. Bathing suits, sunglasses, those are good summertime things you'd probably need either way. :)

OP if it's for your DH give him gift cards for places he likes to go, ie if he likes a morning coffee get him a card for Starbuck's or Peet's, if he likes an occasional fast food breakfast or lunch give him gift cards for those places, if he likes to do a certain hobby give him a gift card for that. Wine, his favorite beer........
This year for the kids I'm going to do a Cold Stone or Tutti Melon (fro yo) gift card ($10 each), a small iTunes card ($10-15), some random jewelry and hair items, lip glosses and a few candies. I may give them each their own Target gift card as well, that way they can each get a new bathing suit...altho DD15 is going to be shopping in the adult swim suit section while DD12 is still in the kid swim suit section..... :)

I also don't like a ton of candy either, I bought: DD 16 zebra seat covers for her car and a new cell phone case. DD daughter almost 13, got a new bike. The bike was more then I wanted to spend but her current nike is my old banana seat bike I got when I was 6 so it was time! Oh well! I need to come up w/ something send to DS 19, stationed at the Naval base Texas!

My mom still made me an easter basket when I was a teenager, too! :goodvibes It usually had a dvd or a cd, popcorn :thumbsup2, and candy.

My daughter is three. Her easter basket has candy of course, but she's also getting Lilo and Stitch on DVD, a koosh ball, some animal cookies, and some stickers.

I put summer things in the kids baskets, mostly stuff for the summer swimming season! ;) I buy on clearance at the end of the previous summer - swim goggles, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, diving sticks, etc. At most $10 per child.

This year, however, our oldest has a new hobby and needs protective gear...so, he's getting that (plus swim goggles). To make it balance and a little more equal, the other kids are getting extras. The girls are getting their swimsuits and a cover up instead of with their summer clothes (well the cover up is new this year). The other son is getting something he's been saving for ages for and isn't quite there...he'll get one as a surprise.

DD will be 18 (EEK:scared1:) the Saturday after Easter. Since her birthday is usually close to Easter - I usually take a look at the stash of b-day presents and then decide what "works" for Easter vs. her birthday.

So - this year's Easter will probably be all the Teavanna stuff that she is getting(a travel mug, tins, 2 loose teas, and some rock sugar). Maybe a little candy too (DH insists:laughing:).

I usually hit the dollar store for new mechanical pencils and erasers, a pair of socks with characters (yes, my kids still like this stuff!:thumbsup2), chapstick, pez. They each get a new dvd and a book and the candy, of course, and thats it.

I'm thinking Hop and Muppets for their DVD's.
