Easter at OKW

Hi all.... I'm looking towards 2005 already. LOL.

Was looking at making OKW reservations, which is high in points....

Can anyone please tell me what it is like at Easter? and at OKW.

Is Disney very crowded?

All my Mom and Dad want to do is hang out by the pool, and I was interested in the Easter Hunt.

School schedule is forcing us to try this during Easter...

It's usually pretty crowded Easter since it is a school vacation for lots of places. OKW does hold Easter Egg hunts. I think they do a general one with eggs all over the resort and a smaller one for the really little kids. Details for this year should be coming out soon so that'll give you a guide for what to expect next year.

We went during Easter week in '99. The week working up to Easter wasn't all that bad. But come Fri, Sat & Sun----wow.
The MK, particularily, was packed. It was really hot on Easter weekend that year too (in the low 90's), so it made it even a little less tolerable. Probably staying around the OKW resort and doing some fun activities is the way to go. But if you want to go into the parks, just be emotionally and physically prepared for it. We had a nice time despite the crowds and I'm sure you will too. But it really made me appreciate off-season that much more We normally take our kids out of school, but that's a very individual decision and a whole other topic . Have fun planning your trip ! Detailed planning and making those PS's are the best thing you can do during the busy seasons.

We were there for Easter Sunday about two years ago. The egg hunt started at 6AM and lasted nearly all day. Kids were limited to 3 eggs. The plastic eggs had paper slips inside to take to the Community Hall and trade in for prizes and candy. The eggs were really hard to find.

Thanks for the OKW info.. Yea, we're thinking of mainly hanging out by the pool, and doing the MK nights if they have them then... I forgot what their called, but they close MK and you have to buy a seperate admission.

As to school, I am already pulling DD out for 1 week a year at October. DOes anyone know what the public schools sets as a limit for absences?

We're in private kindergarten this year, and switching to public school in IL next year (1st grade). I've been trying to find out, but when I look on the web, or call the school, they say, no you can't miss school.

I never get a number of days....

Every school system is different. I can only speak for mine, which allows 5 school days off for family vacations. We live not too far from Philadelphia. I am aware, from particpating in many threads on this subject, that the policies can vary greatly as does the school districts tolerance of taking kids out. I won't even get into my personal feelings on this subject so as to not start any debates here on these boards. But I'd suggest you ask the school for it's policy handbook---you could also get it directly from the school district. Some schools will put the days you take your children out as "excused" (as does my district), others will put them down as "unexcused". Ask for something in writing.

Are you referring to E-Nights ? If so, check with your resort on the day you check-in. They'll let u know if any are being offered during your stay and then you can buy the tickets right at the check-in counter.

Don't forget, if you buy an e ticket, you have to use a hopper pass sometime that day.

We went during spring break to WDW, starting on Easter and the entire week was so crowded--more than I've ever seen it. We saw signs that the parks were filled to capacity. Definitely expect that you will not see all you want, but at least the weather should be nice.

When I've taken my kids out of school (they are allowed 5 unexcused absenses a year), I have written a note explaining our travel plans and asking that my children's teachers understand and work with us by providing work ahead of time or allow my children to make it up asap upon return. The principal gets this (particularly our high school principal) and signs it and has my child have each teacher sign it. It's still an unexcused absence, but at least my children are able to make up the work they missed and not get E's for those. I would call your child's principal or counselor to find out what your school does. I would think that most are understanding.

Vacations are not considered excused absences in our school district here in Western NC. However, I chatted with the principal over lunch one day, and we are ok to take our children on vacation. It is excused. We get the work ahead of time and turn it back in when the children get back from vacation.

Moral of the story - it is always good if you and your child's principal are good friends!
