Easter 2009 spot-the-state-plate competition results

Ok, we had 18 days this year so more time to get them all. In the end we missed three:

Idaho
Montana
Hawaii

We didn't count the disabled buggy at Celebration which was sporting a Hawaii front plate.

The tough ones this year (maybe timing of Spring break ?) were Alaska (not unusual), Rhode Island and Washington.

I never thought driving around City Walk vast parking lots could be so much fun.

So, can you get all 52 states... ?

I'd be surprised. There are only 50 states. Washington, D.C. is a stand alone city not in any state and there are several island territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa (and some others) but good luck on spotting license plates from those places. Let us know if you ever do. Have fun looking.

Aah, thanks for the correction. Is there such a thing as a Washington DC plate ?

We've never seen Guam, PR or Hawaii in our visits. Maybe next time....

Excellent question about Washington, D. C. car tags. D. C. stands for District of Columbia, district rather than state. Hmmmmm. Though there are Washington city residents many of the politicians, diplomats, and others who work in D. C. live in Virginia or Maryland and I imagine have their cars licensed in their state. I don't know if Washington dwellers have to travel a few miles to a surrounding state to tag their cars or if there is a D. C. license. If there is, it would surely be the smallest number plates in the country. I think you've just come up with a great Trivial Pursuit question.

BTW, Hawaii and Alaska used to be territories (like Puerto Rico, etc) but both became states about 50 years ago.

If your staying off-site and doing frequent trips around the parks - especially at Spring Break - its a great idea to keep the kids occupied. At Easter I guess there are more folk driving down from the North (Snowbirds). Maybe less out-of-state plates during the summer.

Anyway it gets quite competitive with our kids.
