Are you all keeping an eye on Hurricane Earl? The weather channel was reminding people to pack a "go" bag, gas your cars, etc.

You know, my DH gets all hyped up about these things. I honestly believe this is how the news stations / weather stations get people to keep tuning in. I am further north so the end of the week is a long ways away. I will probably start paying attention around Wednesday / Thursday. DH has to work Saturday, so if there is going to be a hurricane it will undoubtable fall on his shift. All the bad storms seem to.

I live in Newport and 4 cruise ships are docking here this weekend and one of their land excursions is coming to my work so I am watching to see if the itinerary changes for any of them.

I will wait to pack a evacuation bag until it is a little closer but my cat's carrier always has a bottle of water, a bag of her food, and a towel in case I have to exit the house with her in an emergency (fire). I just keep it in my downstairs closet.

We're heading up to WV for the weekend, so I'm not too worried about the storm unless it changes paths. Here, I think we're supposed to just get a bit of rain and wind, nothing too serious. We'll make sure we leave out enough water and food for the cats in case we can't get back on Monday though.

I may have to go down to the marina to pull the boat outta the water and move it inland. so much for the labor day weekend.

I live on the beautiful Del-Mar-Va peninsula about 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. I just asked DH about our evacuation plan. He said we are going to ride it out. We are not in a flood plain and he just wants to stay put.

He has been wanted a generator and has been looking around. He was ready to do some buying but the Honda place in Salisbury and Dover are both closed on Mondays. I wonder how busy they will be tomorrow.

I think, in theory, you should be alright. Just make sure you have plenty of supplies on hand. The big issue with this one is the wind from what I hear. Generators are amazing, my dad got one after losing power for 5 days with the big snowstorm we had earlier this year. Were you local for Isabelle? I think that one came through in 2003, we lost power for 4 days and I lived in Manassas, a fairly busy and populated suburb. It's crazy.

Our local news (RI) tonight said that everything points to it veering off the coast without hitting us, so I'm not too worried. But I'll keep an eye on it.

Yay! I have been so busy with work that I didn't even notice this. I guess I am in the 110 - 120+ MPH zone - I live by the water.... ugh.

Guess I need to make sure everything is duct taped down, away from the trees and I have to tend the boats...bugger!

2 Sundays ago I was bobbing around in the ocean at Ocean City, MD. Hadn't been there since about 1986. Had a blast for a quick few days trip and was my kid's first trip to see the ocean. Yesterday on a morning news show, it was reported that they rescued 258 (I think) people from the riptides this past weekend in Ocean City.

The only thing I have planned is an extended family cookout Sataurday. First one in over 2 years. Figures.

Like someone else said, it makes good news. I won't worry until it gets a little closer.

We were at Rehoboth Beach DE on Saturday and didn't see any rescues. Then we heard on the news the high number that had been reported. We were there 2 weeks prior and saw 2 rescues.

That's my DH too…in regular weather he's perfectly fine being unprepared.

Not coming my direction but as a Florida girl, I'm always ready. DH and I have a box of nonperishable items, flashlights, batteries, cases of water, and extra medicine all set and ready to go. We also have an overnight bag packed for each of us with enough clothes to last a couple of days so we can leave quickly and hopefully before the rush. Also, we have our cat carriers out and in an easily accessible place.

I hope the storm doesn't do much damage!

i live in charleston, sc and looks like it's going north of us and hopefully staying off the coast a bit. but i always have a "hurricane" rubbermaid box ready to go with supplies in it - stays in my hall closet. i check it about once a year to make sure nothing has expired and batteries are still good. all i would need to do is grab some clothes for us. praying that none of these storms mess up our trip in 19 days to WDW!!!

I am going to wait it out a bit..Not too much longer though. Chances are we are just going to get rain but i have animals that I need to prepare for also. I have to make sure I have their water buckets topped off as well as enough hay and grain for the pony and the goats and that their stalls are cleaned.. we are far enough away from the water that we probably would not have to evacuate but I still like to make sure the trailer is ready to go..

plus I have to put all the kids toys away and clean the basement. last time it rained heavy we got water in the basement and the kids toys that were left outside floated away!

DD is going to OC, MD with her BFF this weekend. I hope it bounces out to see by then and the waves aren't too bad. Sucks being at the beach but unable to go in the water due to the waves and current.

I'm not worried at all. SE VA here and every time I hit the weather channel they have it just a little more off the coast than last time for here. Maybe rain on Thurs from Earl, but maybe not. Definitely not a "go bag" situation. As for RI I think the cruises might change their plans though. Even if it doesn't land up there the cruises may still have to drive through it. Not really something they do if they can avoid it.

We were in Rehoboth 2 weeks ago(God, I wish I was still there) and did the beach in Lewes because my sister said the rips had been up all month. More of a bay there with waves, but with 3 girls aged 5 and 3 its fun for them. Me and my best friend took her 2 girls and my niece.

I'm watching it closely. I'll probably move our boat from the dock out to the mooring on Friday so as to avoid all of the banging around it could potentially get at the dock... I hope it stays east and we only get a brush.
