East Coast Beaches

Staying in Orlando for 7 days in July. We may use one day to go to a beach over on the East Coast. Which beach would you suggest going to if you did not want many people around. I'm thinking of the Outer Banks in North Carolina where you can drive away from the tourist areas, pull of the side of the road, cross the dunes and have the beach to yourselves. The drawback is no lifeguards but don't plan on venturing too far into the surf. Is there anything like this north or south of Daytona?

You might think about the Vero Beach area. Not too far to drive and has a really wide beach. I believe there may actually be lifeguards there as well.
