any recommendations for a good beach place to stay for a week in north or south carolina? [ Already thinking of next summer!] Thanks for any input!!

I have always enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach. Always had a good time there.

Sunset beach in NC. Small community with no commercialism on the island. You can ride bikes and it is very quiet, beautiful beach and family oriented. The flip side is that it is 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach where all the action is located. It is 5 minutes from Calabash which is known for it's fried seafood!

I will second the Myrtle Beach area. I have gone every summer since I was a small child (Um, like 40+ years::beach:). If you stay on the outskirts of the city (Surfside, North Myrtle Beach), it will be a little quieter and you can drive into town. Or stay where the action is right in town. In addition to the beach you have shopping, shows, and nightlife.

We've rented beach houses on Sunset and Ocean Isle Beach. They are both nice, but we prefer Ocean Isle. It's kind of quiet, not much to do on the island but a small museum, mini golf and restaurants, but it is a great place for families. The water is usually really warm by mid June too!

By the way, Ocean Isle Beach is in the southern part of North Carolina. It is about a 40 minute drive from Myrtle Beach, and about the same amount from Wilmington which has some fun stuff to do as well. We also sometimes take a day trip to Charleston, SC.

Outer Banks of North Carolina. We particularity like Corolla

Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach..but I am not biased much! :goodvibes;)

I love living in Wilmington!

I love Litchfield Beach and Golf resort about 15 miles from Myrtle Beach. The resort is very quiet and have rooms that range from single rooms to large homes. Most complexes have their own pool. Only 10 minutes from Murrell's Inlet (great restaurants). Close enough to Myrtle if you want to get into the action there.

Crazy question- Do you ever see any shark attacks in North or South Carolina? How about alligators on the banks?

DW is from Myrtle Beach, so we're partial...LOL

Where you stay depends on what you want to do....Hang out on the beach all day every day, or other tourist type stuff.

Garden City Beach (Surfside) is quiet and relaxed...Myrtle Beach Central--is a bit busier!

Ocean Lakes Campground has houses for rent, it's really busy, but good for kids and what not...

Shark attack are EXTREMELY RARE TO NON EXISTANT....

Alligators...even more rare on the beaches, though there are some on the inland river areas...but they leave you alone

What kind of beach vacation do you like? That will depend on which beach would be the best fit.

I grew up going to Myrtle but don't care for it anymore. It's way too crowded. But you want to be in the huslte and bustle then its for you. There are some quieter beaches north and south of Myrtle if that's what you want as well.

I prefer the Outer Banks of NC or Hilton Head SC.
