Heading on the Fantasy in a couple of weeks and was just wondering what, if anything, DCL is saying or doing about the ZIKA virus. I have bug repellant with high % of DEET for when we are on the islands.
We received an email from DCL last week on this. Not much they can "do" other than keep you informed. Here is the text of that email with additional contact info if you have questions for them.
As you may be aware, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently issued a travel alert for travelers to specific countries in the Caribbean and Latin America due to the Zika virus, a mosquito related illness.
The precautions recommended by the CDC are similar to those to prevent other mosquito borne illnesses like dengue fever, chikungunya, and West Nile virus and include wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants and using insect repellents containing DEET to avoid mosquito bites. While the most common symptoms are usually mild and include fever, rash, joint pain and pink eye, pregnant women should pay special attention to the travel alert and take necessary precaution to avoid mosquito bites.
When I went on my cruise on the Fantasy in April I also got a notice of that, so I had to cancel my Mayan Jungle excursion. But, I wouldn't worry too much about it, DCL will keep you safe.

Disney is wonderful, but they can't keep you safe over that which they have no control. It's not like a hurricane they can go around. Incidents of Zika and other mosquito borne illnesses are all over their cruise iteneraries.
Protection from mosquitos and all they carry falls into the guest's hands. Zika is real. NJ has had several incidents of infection from people who have traveled to Central and South America, and the first child with microcephaly has been born in the state.
I never saw a single mosquito on our eastern caribbean cruise. I know they are there but I'm from MN where mosquitos are practically our state bird so I'm not very intimidated by them. Just use your best judgment, stay away from jungle or deep brush areas, use a repellent with a high level of Deet and avoid the outdoor areas at dusk. If you are pregnant, I would talk to your doctor.
We traveled to St. Marteen on an eastern itinerary when Chikungunya was all over the place (oct 2014). Very similar to Zika or Dengue. We were VERY diligent about our mosquito bite prevention. Used and reapplied spray repellents and I also got one of those little clip on fan things that keep mosquitos away from you within a certain range. If you're not pregnant or planning on getting pregnant, just use common sense mosquito bite prevention. My dad is an infectious disease physician and I asked him about this as we are traveling to the western Caribbean on DCL in September. He basically said the same thing - can't let things like this keep you from traveling (unless you're high risk, i.e. Pregnant) as long as you protect yourself. Just like you protect yourself against harmful UV rays with sunscreen! Take the same attitude with mosquitos and repellent. Safe travels!

We received the same Email as the previous poster. That is about all anyone can do. My wife and I basically feel if a gal is possible pregnant the best thing to do would be to cruise another I itinerary.
We did the eastern a month or so ago. No bites at all.
