We are staying in Windsor Hills at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. :cool1: I was wondering the best route to get to each of the parks from there. Is traffic usually bad? Are there any roads less congested?

also, how about getting from the airport to WH? any tips, short cuts? how long of a drive is it?

That's a very quiet time---you'll have very little traffic. The easiest way:

Left (north) on Old Lake Wilson
Right on 192
Keep to your right, take the WDW exit, follow the signs.

This is about 12 minutes to TTC. Less to every other theme park, a bit more to DTD.

For the AK area, you might instead want to turn left at 192, then right at Sherbeth/Entry Point. Follow that until it ends on Osceloa. AKL will be to your left, everything else on property to your right. AK is also to the right, but requires a (legal) u-turn shortly after you get on Osceloa, so get over to your left.

We usually take the south exit at the airport and then 417 Greenway to Kissimmee (a right exit after a couple of miles). You can take exit 2 for Celebration, go up to 192 and turn left and go about 3 or 4 miles and make a left turn onto Old Lake Wilson Rd. It's only about a mile to WH on the right. 417 is not as busy as taking 528 to I -4.
It will take about 35 minutes or so. The traffic at that time of year shouldn't be bad at all.

I had heard there was a short cut from WH to WDW that avoided 192. Anyone know anything about this, or did I imagine it (very likely)?

You can use Sherberth Rd to get to AK and then on to the rest of the parks. To avoid 192 except for crossing it: Turn left out of WH and turn left at Morgan Williams Rd (about half mile) then turn left onto Funie Steed Rd (a few hundred feet). At the first intersection turn right onto Entry Point Rd. Follow that to 192 and cross 192 at the lights and the road is now called Sherberth Rd. , follow Sherberth to the first set of lights and turn right onto Osceola Parkway. You'll be across from AK. Follow the signs for the rest of the parks.
When you leave Disney follow the signs for AK area then when you get near AK keep to the left and follow the signs to AK Lodge. This will take you back to the intersection of Sherberth Rd. Turn left and follow it back across 192 the way you came. It's very easy once you do it.
Here is a map to show you the shortcut. It's line #1, the red line from WH.

It is my mission when at WH to avoid the 192 and I4 whenever possible! :lmao:

From the airport we also take the South Exit, join the 417 towards Disney, but go off at exit 3. Turn right onto Osceola Parkway and follow that through Disney, which has the added bonus to taking you under the WDW sign which is a great start to the holiday! Follow signs for Animal Kingdom until you reach the signpost where AK is the right lane and AK Lodge the left lane. Take the left lane then turn left at the traffic lights onto Sherberth Rd. Cross over the 192 onto Entry Point and follow that until you reach a roundabout with a fountain in the centre in the middle of Westgate Resort. Turn left at the roundabout and then right onto Old Lake Wilson Rd. Windsor Hills is just a little further on the right. You will need $2.50 for the tolls including 50c in change for the unmanned one at exit 3.

Reverse this for the parks as they are all signposted once you pass AK. For AK, after turning from Sherberth Rd to Osceola Parkway several lanes will join from the left (the traffic coming out of AK) then soon after that there is a lane going off on the left (very easy to miss) take this, turn left and you are right infront of the AK gates.

For grocery shopping without the 192 go to the new Publix at the junction with the 532. Turn right out of Windsor Hills, follow Old Lake Wilson until it crosses the 532 and Publix is immediately on your right. About 6-7 min easy drive.:)
