Earthquake

I just read about it here in Oz, one bloke who lives in Anaheim Hills was saying that it felt like his house twisted... I wasn't sure where Anaheim Hills was in regards to Anaheim...

I take it there's been no serious damage to anywhere...

This is off of MousePlanet:

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake with multiple smaller aftershocks struck the greater Los Angeles area at 11:42 AM today. According to the US Geological Survey at CalTech, the epicenter is three miles west-southwest of Chino Hills, which puts it not too far north of the Disneyland Resort. ABC7 news is reporting that all Disneyland Resort attractions and hotels were evacuated immediately after the quake. The Disneyland Resort remains open, and there were no reports of injuries.

Disneyland Resort spokesperson Lisa Haines issued a statement saying "As a result of today's earthquake, we are assessing operations at the Disneyland Resort and have found no reports of injury or damage, The safety of our Cast and Guests is our highest priority -- and as per our normal operating procedures, we are currently testing all of our attractions. We will reopen our attractions as soon as we can ensure their safe operation -- and we will continue to monitor the situation."

My son and his friends were walking into Adventureland when it happened. They were giggling when they thought that all 6 of them had tripped at the same time.:rotfl2: THEN it hit them what was going on.
When my son called he said that the "California" folks were nice and calm and the "non california folk" were running towards the exits of the stores....

I joked with him that that's what he gets for going to Disneyland without me! :rolleyes1

We just got back home today. The earthquake hit on our 2nd day.

DH and I were in the bank on Main St. upgrading our 3 day park hoppers to APs. Our teen boys were outside waiting for us.

At first the ground vibrated as if someone was stomping. I looked around but didn't see anyone doing that. Then the floor starting rolling and stopped and then rolled again. I looked for a doorway but didn't notice the one on the side right away. DH told found it and said to leave.

I got part way out and then remembered we left our park hoppers on the counter. So I went back in, grabbed the tickets, and went back out. Priorities, you know.;)

We found our boys outside saying it didn't feel as strong as in the building.
After a few minutes, the guy called us back in and we finished up our passes.

All the rides were closed so we decided to get lunch (along with the thousands of others). Waiting 40 min. in line at Bengal. A few smaller rides opened up soon after that. Some big rides never did open up or it was very late. We went to Downtown Disney and did some shopping.

Indiana Jones and Rapids never did open up I don't think. The rides that did open up were VERY long and Fast Pass lines were long because everyone had their FPs from earlier.

It wasn't as big as the 89 quake but when it kept going, I started to get more concerned. It shook me up for a few minutes, but we made the best of it. :thumbsup2

From then on, we had an earthquake plan. If the boys split up from us, we were to meet at a certain spot if another earthquake happened.

We were on Soarin during the earthquake so we didn't even know it happened until after we exited the ride. They did close all of the mechanical rides and some took longer than others to reopen...Indiana Jones was still closed the next day and the maliboomer didn't reopen either.

All the next day at various places I would think, "This would be a bad time for an earthquake." Glad I wasn't in line somewhere cramped like inside Space Mountain.

It would have been interesting to be there that day. I would have rather been at Disneyland that day than at work!!

We just came off of Toy Story Mania and was in the gift shop when the floor started to rumble and the building shake. I was scared stiff because, even though it lasted only a few seconds, I was not sure if it was an introduction to a "BIG ONE". Being an east coast family, we have never experieced that type of of thing before. It took quite a while for things to normalize. Cast members in the gift shop were sweet even though they were visibly frightened. All of the rides were closed for inspection for quite a while afterwards. The Rapids ride was closed several hours after- I do not know if it ever re-opened because we did not feel like doing the walk over there again. Incidently, it happened to be DS's 5th birthday- now I know it will be an exceptionally memorabe one!! :scared1:
