Thinking about all of our fellow Dis-er's in Northern California, and hoping everybody is safe!??!!

Yeah, we're good. I live about an hour south of Milpitas, the epicenter, and we were a bit scared. It lasted pretty long. It's funny how when I used to think that earthquakes were kind of fun and interesting and then we had the 1989 Loma Prieta quake and it was fun no longer! That was a terrifying time. We live in Santa Cruz County and the Loma Prieta quake of '89 was centered in the Santa Cruz mountains. But this one was ok at 5.6 but still enough to make you wonder "ok, how long is this gonna last?" Marilyn:beach:

with direction. No one here at my house felt a thing. I have lived all my life in Northern CA and have felt may be a hand full of quakes. (phew, wiping the brow). Haven't read any news today but hoping every one is okay.

Everything is fine here in San Jose! But riding this quake definitely reminded me of '89!!!!!!

I remember '89, that was bad. We left the Bay Area 7 years ago, and the earthquakes are something I do not miss!! Glad everyone is okay!

A brieft moment of excitement last night and lots to talk about today at work. DD 5 slept right through it! princess:

WHAT! OMG this is the first ive heard of it. I really hope everyone is safe! Keep us updated.

My vanity mirror/dresser (antique 3-paneled, full-length thing) and my computer monitor were really shaking back and forth, though I'm on the 3rd floor in a house that shakes when a truck drives down the street. But nothing even fell off any of my shelves. It really wasn't too bad. When compared to the quake in '89 (I was 11 and home alone - eep!!!), it was like comparing Gadget's Roller Coaster to one of the multi-loop ones at Magic Mountain!

Scared the life out of me. I live in Santa Clara. The first little jolt and i'm like "ohh ok.." then BOOM the second wave. I lept up shouted OMG" then it stopped. Well, I guess my yelping scared my DS3 and he cried. I tried to tell him it was like a ride at Disneyland! ( he didint' buy it :rolleyes1 ) We all survived but the cat was spooked.

I never really get over the '89 quake. I'm never quite sure if it's gonna keep going ....:scared1:

I'm so sorry you guys, hope you're all okay and staying calm. We rode the Northridge one in 1994 and a couple small ones in No. Cal - thankful to be living in Colorado now!

Ugghhhh, I'm so glad to hear you are all OK!

We were at Disneyland about a week before the 89 quake (I was 11 at the time too, Pez)...I can't imagine what that one was like for all of you! I was terrified just seeing it on the TV. I remember we went to Universal Studios on that trip, and the earthquake attraction scared me so badly that it ruined my whole day there. I had a terrible earthquake phobia at that age.

I had to ask "was that an earthquake?" DD5 asked why daddy was shaking the house. It was her first earthquake. DH & I both experienced Loma Prieta in '89, so this was nothing in comparison. Plus, we're about 30 miles away in Livermore. My sister lives in Santa Clara, much closer to the epicenter, and it sounds like it was a little more of an E-ticket ride there.

I guess it was my reminder to turn in an earthquake kit at dd's school (due a month ago :rolleyes1 ).
