My son has ear issues, he is 9 and this will be his first flight. I have read some about earplanes but just looked them up online tonight. Are there two different ones...for adults and children. Also our flight is only an hour and a half total and it says to put them in an hour before landing so should I just leave them in? Also I know it says it reduces noise but we would still be able to carry on a conversation correct? Sorry for so many questions but this is the one thing I am a little nervous over because I want his first flight to be as comfortable as possible.
Thanks!!!

My DS and DD are just a little younger than your son and our flight is just under 2 hours. We tend to just leave the earplanes in for the entire flight. It's just easier for us. We may talk a little louder, at least until we get used to them but really, you hear just fine. I love earplanes and I don't fly without them!
I don't know if you're planning on buying them on-line or not but we always buy ours in the local grocery store, drug store or Wal-Mart.
Don't forget to put them somewhere where you won't lose them after your flight because each pair is good for one round trip flight.
Good luck!! :goodvibes

I had a hard time finding the kid-sized ones. The only place I can find them in our area is CVS. Check there if you can't find them anywhere else.

we used them last year.

put them in before take-off, removed them during flight (couldn't hear a thing with them in :listen: ), reinserted them for landing.
our opinions: NOT the most comfy thing (DD refused to wear them again after initial take-off; i couldn't sleep with the discomfort in my ears).

they are very useful. but personally, i'll prob stay with my "tried & true" antihistimine route (absolutely no pain & a great nap so i'm rested upon arrival!! ;) )
btw, our ENT doc (lotsa ear probs in our family) recommended the antihistimine, & we've used it for years.

hth :sunny:

Ear Planes did nothing for my son while flying. He almost always has problems on flights, and we tried them twice. I totally agree with taking antihistimines which work much better and the Ear Planes were really uncomfortable. Seems they work for some and not for others.

What antihistamine do you take? I have heard to take a decongestant like Sudafed.

My dd can't take Benadryl, so I bought a box of Sudafed for kids and will give both kids that before our flight. They are chewable tablets. I was having a hard time finding the kids Sudafed at stores and then someone reminded me that those products have moved to the pharmacy. If you can't find it, ask for it at the pharmacy.

Would I be permitted to bring chewable Sudafed with us on the plane since they are chewables and not liquid, or are only RX meds allowed? If their ears hurt during the flight, I might want to try a second dose before landing.
