Earning $ for WDW ?'s.

I have seen alot of posts about My Points, My Rewards, and other such sites. What are these and do they really work to earn extra $ or check cards for your WDW trip? What are some some of the sites you have used?

DH and I both use mypoints, but it takes a while to rack up points, unless you're a heavy internet shopper! Most of the shopping I do (gifts, makeup, clothing, toys) IS online, so that is helpful for me. You don't have to purchase anything~you get 5 points for every link you click on from the emails they send you. What we've found to be the most efficient way is to work towards 3,500 points, which gets you a $25 amount on a "credit card" (it's either Visa or MasterCard). You redeem your points, and they will issue you a card number, which you can then call in to WDW to pay for rooms, tickets, etc, OR you can request an actual card, which will be mailed to you, then you use it just as you would a debit card. I did it for about 6 months last year and had $50 for our September trip. In almost a year, DH and I together will have $150 to be applied to our next trip. As I said, I buy most things online anyway, so I might as well be rewarded for it! (When you shop with participating companies, you get a certain number of points per dollar that you spend.)

I have just started doing MySurveys. Because THEY determine which surveys you qualify for, I think it will take longer to rack up points with it.

There's an entire discussion board here on the DIS that is devoted soley to Rewards Programs. Disney Rewards Programs

I've been doing rewards programs since the mid-90's. They were much more "profitable" than they are today but you can still earn a few extra dollars (either in the form of cash, Disney Dollars or Webcertificates) or giftcards. It can take a very long time to earn anything if you do not shop online or do trial memberships of some of their offers.

Basically, these websites offer "points" or "credits" in exchange for shopping thru their online portal to well-known merchants and some little-known companies as well. Usually it's points/$ spent but sometimes it's a flat number of points for just making a purchase. The points are credited to your account and when you have enough poits accumulated, you can redeem them for your reward of choice. Most of the sites also have paid emails (just a few points), daily click thru's for points and trivia questions.

I've gotten many giftcards, Webcertificates and checks over the years. They will not pay for your WDW entirely but they help to provide a few extras.

I LOVE this idea!! I have over 3700 pts to redeem and never thought of getting a credit/debit card. I was leaning towards RFC or Walmart.

Unless you are willing to shop online at the merchants a place like mypoints links to, its probably not worth the bother. I'm not much of an online shopper, and clicked everything I could for a few months. In the end, didn't have enough points to do a darn thing with.

Spending money to get money is not my idea of saving money. And I can usually do better by searching or buying on sale than I can through their links.

i.e. mypoints gives links for Lancome mascara - which I used to buy and which is never on sale. So using it there would be good. But when I got cheap, I stopped buying Lancome mascara and by $3 Cover Girl on sale. The have links to Office Depot, but I don't shop Office Depot.

Then again Mypoints often has deals were you get a a big chunk of points for simply filling out survey, apply to enter sweepstakes or specialty points for certain purchases (Tupperware, book clubs, offers for 2000 points for Blockbuster sign up etc.) The key is to click every box for your interests and to ask for as many emails as possible. I click thru at least 10 points a day and make special purchases 3 times a yr or so.. I cash out a few times a year.. three $10 Target cards and at least one $25 Rainforest Cafe card.. I don't buy much online either.

I did all that stuff, and the $10 Target giftcard I was halfway to getting wasn't worth three months worth of surveys, downloading, spyware.

There are easier ways to get and save money.
