Early roll call for March 20-23rd 08 Wonder cruise

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Hope everyone has a nice halloween.
we have a blustery day due to Hurricane Noel. Hope it doesnt rain on them tonight.

we usually get over 100 kids!!

Hope to hear from someone soon,

Kathy

I had 120 kids when i ran out of candy and turned off the lights. more went down the street afterwards too.

Lots of cute costumes, especially Disney Princesses and pirates.

Tonight I will watch the Wonder pull out!!
With hurricane Noel I dont think they will head for Nassau, it depends on the damage they get there today i guess. I hope CC is ok after the storm too.
It is right in the way of it.

Kathy

Happy Monday all,

went to the magic kingdom sunday. It was fun and we had great weather. Saturday we drove to the port and saw the Magic sitting there.

It was a great weekend,

Kathy

Need some advise , we are thinking about booking this cruise, but wondering if the price will come down any, with it being over Easter do you think it will sell out soon ?
Have been on 4 disney cruises 3 x 7 nighters in Caribbean and 11 night med last year, want to take our Grandson tis time and thought 3 nights would be enoough for starters.

hi,
well usually the prices do NOT go down. The farther out you can book the better the price because they will continue to creep up each month until you cruise.
sometimes if you can wait and cruise on the spur of the minute you can wait until about a week before acruise and you will see an occassional room pop up with agencies on line that are discounted but you have to see them when they first popup and book because they dissapear within minutes.

Some TA's can get you a nice room credit to help off set the on board expenses.

Are you from Florida??
about a month before a cruise DCL will sometimes offer a florida resident discount.
You have to call to get it, they wont advertise it at all.
they do list florida resident discounts at www.allseastravel.com

plus they have some good buys about a week before the cruise.

travelocity will also have some last minute discounts

If you book no and see a better deal some good TA's will rebook you and get the discount for you, but usually you have to find the discount and show it to them.
If you book now direct through DCL and are a resident and they discount your category just before the cruise you can call and receive the discount, they will credit your money back to you.
we book for 11/24/07 18 months ago, then 3 weeks ago they discounted our cat room and we got refunded $820.

I guess I would advise if you want to do this, book now and watch for sales as it approaches, then hope your TA will get the discount for you. you may want to ask them their policy on this before booking with them.

good luck,
kathy

Thank you for your quick reply, I still cann't decide, earlier this year we got a 56% discount on the med cruise by waiting until 8 weeks before departure,we are from England so not entitled to any residents discount, I was wondering is Easter a popular holiday time in the U.S ?

Yes Easter is a fairly popular holiday here.
More so for the 7 night cruisers because they will be on the ship the entire Easter day.
The 3 day returns on Easter, so no difference in the cruise but they can claim it as a holiday cruise and charge more because technically we are on the ship on Easter, even though it is the day we get off the ship.
The 4 day cruisers will get on the ship on Easter so they will have a special dinner.

They really dont do anything special on board other than dinner and a religious service in the morning.
But many have good friday off, like us. So you only loose one day work time on thursday to do the 3 day. so it is kind of popular for that reason. Kids here are out of school on Good Friday too.

I'm sure there will still be a few cabins available 6 to 8 weeks out. I have No idea how the prices will be. It will depend on how much trouble they are having filling up the ship.

Hope things will work out for you to make it.
You are certainly coming from a long ways away. I hate to fly and you have such a long flight, my heart goes out to you!!

we have taken our grandkids on 7 day cruises a few times and they had a blast even when they were young. we have talen them at ages 18 months, 3,5,8,10,11,13,15,16. 7 wasnt oo long for them, you may consider looking at a longer one that is not a holiday cruise to have a better chance of getting a discount.
Usually the week before and after a holiday gets pretty good rates.
we are going for the 2nd time the week after Thanksgiving on a 7 day and got great rates.

kathy

thank you again for the great advise,I know it's a long way to travel but we are not just doing the cruise, what we plan to do is, myself, husband and grandson go on Disney cruise , daughter ,son in law go on Royal Caribbean cruise at same time meet up when we disembark go to Disney world for 2 days then daughter, son inlaw ,grandson go to visit family in Turks and Cacos and we have a tour down the Florida Keys.
We've already booked our flight , it would be a same to miss out on the cruise because we waited too long to book , I'm thinking now I will book cruise today when husband gets back from work.

WOW, that is an awesome trip!! It sounds like you are going to make the most of every minute here in Florida.
We go to WDW all the time, we have had annual passes for the last 7 years.
They have added a lot of new things the last 2 years. It is usually great weather that time of the year too.

Kathy

We've gone ahead and booked today, chickened out of waiting for price to drop in case we missed it altogether, there's more to life than money, this is something my husband has wanted to do with his grandson for a long time , been waiting for him to get old enough and better behaved, I think the time is right now.
Which shows do they do on a 3 three night cruise?
Can you reccomend a good limo company, we'd like get a strech limo from airport to cruise terminal?
After the cruise we are staying at the Boardwalk for 2 nights( we members of the Disney vacation club )now have to plan where we will go from there Sannibel or Naples are current favorites.
You must be WDW experts it's a few years since we were there so look forward to all the new stuff

Thats AWESOME you got booked:woohoo: :woohoo:

I loved taking our grandkids on the cruise.
By the time we could affor dit and lived her the older ones were 7 and 10 and they had a blast, we have taken them a few times and they are both teenagers now and they still love WDW and the cruise.

But the other 2 grandkids were almost 2 and 5 when we took them. it was all so magical to them due to the age. The expressions on their faces made it worth every penny!!! Althought Christian who was 2 was terrified of the characters. He didnt realize how big Mickey was. He was thinking a tiny mouse like in his story books, not a almost 5 foot tall mouse:scared1:

I am not sure the exact date, but I think in February they are starting a new show in the Wonder and it has to do with all the Toy Story characters.
I am really excited to see it. It will be taking the place of Hercules.
The other shows a Disney Dreams and The Golden Mickeys, both are excellant and have many, many characters in them. young kids and us old kids all love them.
No need to worry about him making noise and such , this is disney and it will be filled with kids of all ages in the theater.
also they will sometimes have a matinee around 2:30 p.m. and it is the same exact show, but not as crowded and easier for kids to stay awake.

They also have a movie theater which always has a couple of kids shows playing which he may like. Also there is always an animated movie and a kids disney movie playing on the TV so if he needs to settle down for a nap or to be kept entertained while you dress for dinner he can watch that.

even though its not on the room service menu you can order a mickey ice cream bar if you want or in the evenings you can order warm cookies and milk too. usually they are chocolate chip. that is a nice treat before going to bed for all of you.
at dinner kids can order from the adult as well as the kids menu if there is something he would like better there.

I am looking forward to getting to know you the next few months. If I can help with any questions, please ask and I will try to help.
I am going to be cruising next saturday for a week so i wont be on line during that week, just so you know I am NOT ignoring you i just wont be home i will be cruising on the Magic on our 15th disney cruise:woohoo: :woohoo:

Kathy

Good morning,
i for got to say I havnt used a limo service because I live so close to the port and WDW. but I am cruising this weekend with some people who are taking a limo so i will ask them who they are using and if they were happy with their service.
I think they are called Happy Limo, it may be a week before I know, (after my cruise) but I will get back to you about it.

I will ask around about it. I know a few folks who have used Limo services in the past.

well we have a beautiful, cool morning here. In the upper 40's. High about 78 today.
My doggies love the cooler weather and they run all around the yard from about 5 a.m. until 8 a.m. then they are pooped and go back to sleep.
Wish I had their energy;)

Today I have some cruise related errands to take care of.
I have made some Disney iron on transfers to put on a couple of shirts to wear on board. Plus I have bought a couple of trinket type gifts for a couple of people at our meet, but I need one more so i have to look for that today too. Then I need to go to the drug store, drop off a specimin at the vets:scared: and catch up on some :laundy: and sew on a coupel of buttons and get some fresh groceries for Thanksgiving.

If you'd like I would be happy to get you some park maps the next time i go to WDW for all the parks and I can mail them to you. That way you can see whats new and map out your strategy before you get here?
I know I will be going before Christmas to see the light displays. just let me know i am happy to do it. After I get them you can PM me on this board with your address . That way it will be private and nobody accept me will see your address.

well time to get busy I have so much to get done today:flower3:

Port Canaveral Parking

Parking at the port is $12.00 a day (that’s per 24 hours) or $84.00 a week – paid up front, cash or credit card. There are no other payment plans.
There are no other parking options available in or around Cape Canaveral except for parking at your hotel if allowed.
There is a six-level parking garage for Cruise terminal 10, all other options are open-air parking.

Which ships use terminal 10? Go here: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruising/terminals.php

Traveling to and from Orlando (MCO) airport and to the port

When you exit the airport you will merge onto the Highway 528 (also called Beachline 528) and travel about 45 miles to Cape Canaveral. There is one toll to pay which is $1.25. There are no restaurants along the way until the highway ends and becomes a 4-lane surface street. Travel time: 45 mins.

Look here for a huge list of transportation options: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruisin...dtransport.php

Car Rental
All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis and all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

National does not have shuttle service to the port. Enterprise has a location on Merritt Island which is a barrier island between the mainland and the beach. They will shuttle you both ways during normal business hours which are M-f 9-6 and Sat 9-12. The closest Dollar car rental is on South Babcock in Melbourne which is about 20 to 25 mins away from the port. Your best bets are Budget, Thrifty, Avis and Hertz.

Look here for car rental coupons and discount codes:

Avis car rental has agreed to meet or beat prices per Bob Fink

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine. Go another mile or so and on the left is an ABC liquor store and Publix grocery store. Stores only sell beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM.
