!!!! Early Roll Call for January 21 2006 Eastern Magic Cruise !!!!

We moved to Canton after living in Alpharetta for 18 years. Unless you just like driving we watched the AirTran specials and got round trip for about $115 each. We figured with the price of gas we could fly just as cheap!

Gydell, you just reminded me about all the DISers flying AirTran in January.

To every one, we just flew them for the first time this weekend and they are very efficient and turn their planes around quickly. I've never seen a ground crew work so quickly to get the plan back out. We had to connect through Atlanta both ways, and all but one flight got in ahead of schedule. The fourth one was one time, so I won't complain.

DW still isn't sold on them because of the numerous schedule changes they do, but for the price, they aren't bad.

There was enough room in the overhead on the 717 to put a very full (bulging thanks to DW) 21" wheeled carry-on in the long way (i.e. wheels towards the side of the plane or narrow edge facing the isle as opposed to sideways or long edge facing out - hope that makes sense).

The best thing is they had XM satellite radio on board. One of the 4 flights didn't have it, but bring your headsets. It is a nice little treat.

I just can't say it enough how impressed I was on the fact that they don't screw around getting you out. The work really hard for on-time or earlier.

Jeff

I love Airtran...we fly them whenever we can because of the great service. The do have schedule changes but so do a lot of the other airlines...and I like the fact that they are usually always early. It is also a bonus if you can upgrade to business class for 35-75 dollars.....comfy seats..haha. We will be flying Airtran ourselves in January. Now I am just counting the days till I can make my ressies online...woohoo :cool1:

My parents live in Florida, so we stop by and visit them on the way home from our trips.

We don't mind driving anyway....have a Dual DVD player for the kids, and my iPod with lots of custom playlists connected up through my stereo for my wife and I.

When we drove to Disney in September (when gas was at the highest) we spent less than $300 total in gas round trip.....much less than than 4 airline tickets, airport transfers or a rental car, etc.

We do have a 4 YO (almost 5) and a 3 YO. It is much easier to get in my truck and drive with the kids, than to fly. If it was just my wife and myself, I definitely would consider flying for the right price.

unixadm - That's the way to do two trips in one. We will have a 4 year old boy with us so I'm sure we'll see each other.

We had the choice of southwest or Airtran. Southwest was cheaper, but I think Airtran's planes are newer. Either way, I am happy the flights are direct from here (Norfolk, VA) since this will be the kids first plane trip (dd5, ds7).

I am trying to finalize the hotel the night before and the transfers to Port Canaveral. For some reason, I just can't seem to make up my mind. I like the idea of having a rental car to get around Sat morning (maybe pick up some things for the softsided cooler that I don't want to fly with), but does it wind up being more than paying for a towncar transfer? How many of the local hotels have a free shuttle to the port the next morning?

Ahhhh decisions. Speaking of decisions, I need to figure out what excursions to take....depending on what is left for us first time cruisers. Is the booking time 3am on Nov 6th or Nov 7th???

We are headed to Virginia Tech this weekend for the big game against Miami, so I will have 5 hours in the car each way to study my Disney brochures and discuss the options with DH!!! GO HOKIES!!!!!

1st time cruisers like myself can make reservations on the 7th. I think it starts at 12AM Pacific time.
If you stay at the Radisson at the port they have a shuttle that can take you to the ship.
I sprained my ankle on Sat night and so I have had a lot of rest time to figure out our itinerary. I was so excited to get it together, it looks really good. Now I just have to hope that there is availability for what I want when I want. Oh well, time will tell!!!!
I get to get up at 1AM for my reservations (Mountain time).
:cheer2:  :bounce: :Pinkbounc :cool1:

Is anyone alse doing the bottom fishing excursion at Castaway Cay? I am in the morning. I have read other posts that this is a good time if you like fishing. DW and DD's will go to the beach in the morning and we will meet up for lunch. Craig

I think Monday is the worst day for Palo ;) the service and food are just awful that night ;) so you definitely don't want to try then pirate:

How many on this sailing are booked in a GTY status. I am just curious if any of you have been assigned a cabin number yet. I keep checking but no luck thus far. :earsgirl:

Just was reading the posts on the "new" way of boarding. Sounds like it could be a real mess. Hope they have everything worked out by the time we get there!

Had the weirdest dream last night, dreamed they wouldn't let me on the ship because I didn't have my written confirmation sheet :confused3
Glad that was a dream!

Wow I just read about the pirates trying to take over Seabourn on the same day I got our pirate gear all ready for the cruise. Ours will be fun and games that I am really looking forward to but I am so glad that the crew and passengers didn't get harmed in the real Pirates adventure. pirate:

DH and I are in the infamous 6634 that is Cat. 6 at a Cat. 7 price. Anyone nearby?

Knowing me like I do :sunny: , I will probably get up. Is it midnight our own time (central) that we can do this or is it midnight eastern time?

TA told me Nov 5 was day for res, so i was in a panic yesterday when we got halfway to Raleigh and i hadn't made res. Got home late last night and couldn't login. Tried again this am - DCL website was having technical difficulties - now i'm really in a panic - so call and get told - nope - tomorrow! Aughh! Oh well - DH, DD3 & I will be with you on 1/21 MAGIC. We are first time cruisers and VERY excited! Don't know if I can do the 3am thing though. Will i miss out on everything if i wait until 7? Also am looking for info on other Canadians who are US residents - any hassles or special procedures for us?

Thanks! princess:

It's midnight PST, 2:00AM CST.....Get the coffee ready :teeth:
