Our deluxe annual pass expires 12/29 this year. We are planning to go right before Christmas (12/20-23), which are block out days for us. If we renew our pass when we go there on 12/20 and upgrade to premium, would our premium pass start on 20th or 29th?

My guess is your premium wouldn't start until the 29th.

Here's our situation:
I went on 6/7 to renew my son's Premium AP (exp 7/3) and upgrade it to Premier.

They gave me back his Premium that expires 7/3 and then a Premier that isn't good yet and expires 7/3/15.

I don't think this was always that case.

I agree with Tom. I think there used to be a loophole that if you renewed early and upgraded, you got switched to that new pass level right when you upgraded. I don't think it works that way anymore. If that is the case now, then the only suggestion I have is to find out whether you can simply start a new AP on Dec. 20. It will then have a Dec. 20 expiration date the following year and you will lose any renewal discount, but that seems to me the only way to have an AP that will work for your planned dates.

Technically the new pass starts after the expiration of the old one. Example: My SoCal pass exired 4/28. On 4/6, I renewed for next year and upgraded to Premium. They took my SoCal pass and gave me a Premium. The Premium pass didnt technically start until 4/29, but they said I would have access to all of the higher merchandise and food options. Parking and not having blackout days would not be available until 4/29. That being said, I went to the park intending to buy a blackout ticket for 4/27 and they just overrode the blackout for me and let me in without paying for the blackout ticket. I didnt even ask, they just told me not to worry about it when I went to buy the ticket and gave me something to show the people at the gate.

I wonder how they handle it now that Blockout passes are no longer sold? --- Suzanne

In 2012 I renewed my pass at the ticket booth 2 days before it expired. They gave me a new pass and I used it that day. They were both premium, but the new pass did work that day. But now the passes don't have an expiration date printed on them and you just keep using the same pass. With all of the recent changes, I wouldn't be surprised if they've closed that loophole. Have you tried calling the AP hotline to see what they say?

I spoke to a CM and he said that you can pay for the Premium Pass at the renewal rate, but it won’t start until the 30th. So you are still considered Deluxe until it expires. But on the day you pay for the Premium pass, you are allowed to go to both parks that day but that day only. Superlarz was able to get in on the days he was blacked out, so it might also depend on who you get at the ticket booth.

Good luck,

I didnt have a block out ticket, the CM basically wrote a not and then the lead at the gate did an over ride. I had to show the over ride note every time i entered the park but no one gave be any trouble for it.

I just renewed and upgraded my AP from Deluxe to Premium (on a payment plan) and then immediately upgraded again to a Premier Pass. The CM took our Deluxe passes and all we have is the Premier card that expires on July 26,2015. I was under the impression that I had a Premier AP as of now, but perhaps I really have a Deluxe until July 26, 2014? :confused3

Question about upgraded from Premium on payment plan to Premier. Is the full balance due in full, or just the difference?
