Early morning entry

After several trips to WDW, I'm researching going to DL for our next Disney trip. It has been almost 20 years since I've been to DL so obviously a lot has changed.

Can someone explain early morning entry to both parks? Who is eligible for this perk? Do you have to stay onsite or do you have to purchase a certain ticket?

There are two different types of early morning entry at Disneyland Resort. The first is Extra Magic Hour (EMH) is available to guests staying at the Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Paradise Pier (on-site). The second is called Magic Morning, which is for guests with certain types of multi-day tickets. EMH occurs at both DCA or DL (not usually on the same morning), whereas MM is only at DL. MM and EMH at DL occur on the same morning, whereas DCA only has EMH.

Guest staying on-site can participate in as many of the EMHs at they want during their stay, whereas guests with qualifying MM-tickets can usually only participate in one MM.
