After returning from a pretty wet experience at MNSSHP on the 15th, I'm wondering what we should be prepared for in regard to December weather. Up north if we had precipitation it would be snow, but I realize that rain is a possibility.

If you've been at WDW in December what was the weather like? Should we bring rain slickers, like these
or will we be ok with just umbrellas?

We've been in January twice and never had to deal with rain so I'm a little unsure what to take with us!

I'm hoping it doesn't rain in December - we'll be there from Dec. 12 - 20. I keep thinking someone told me the "rainy season" is November or February, but I can't remember.

I have been quite a few times in early Dec. It does not rain very much. I would pick up a couple of the 'one-use' ponchos (you can reuse I guess), generally about a buck, typically found in the camping section at a Walmart. I keep one in my park bag, have never used it. A big poncho or umbrella would be a pain and not really necessary, IMO.

More important is dressing for potentially chilly (sometimes cold) weather.

Those coats look very cozy and quite appropriate for the weather possibilities of December in FL. Kinda reminds me of my winter jacket! :rotfl2: We've gone to WDW for the past several Decembers.

I have to say I lean on more of the "jacket" weather possibility. I always bring my winter coat (LOL, it's a lightweight windbreaker with a lightweight lining like the one you mentioned;)).

It also rained on us a few times last year in mid-December. Keep in mind although it's not really "rainy" season (certainly not like Aug/Sept), rain still does appear in the winter months in FL, usually do to the passing of a cold front, so not only can you get rain but it can even be rainy with a "chill" in the air and sometimes it's rainy prior to a passing front so it can actually be warm and humid. The nice thing is after these fronts come through it usually leaves some nice sunny weather even if the temps are in the 60s, the sun makes it feel much warmer but it's so nice! :thumbsup2

It can very much be a "mixed bag" in December so I would definitely consider a rain slicker, yet don't hesitate to pack some shorts too. (don't forget the gloves and scarf either-you might need them)

OH, and rainy season is DEFINITELY not Dec-Feb, it may rain here and there due to the reason mentioned above but FL rainy season is really around June-October.

We've been in December several times now. One year it was hot - shorts and tank tops, but the past two times it was much cooler.

This past December, it rained pretty hard one day, and it was cold. Most of the week, we'd start out wearing long sleeves and sweatshirts, removing the sweatshirts during the afternoon and putting them back on in the evening. I wished I had brought my lined windbreaker (similar to the one in the picture).

My advice is layers and a lined jacket.

Have fun!

Sounds perfect! I can hardly wait to get there!

Last year we ran into a cold snap (we didn't care, still alot warmer than western pa was:banana: ), ranged from high 50's to mid 60's when we were there during the day...only swam 2 afternoons.

Did wear med-weight jackets & gloves into the parks @ night (MNSSHP).

Hardly any rain @ all for us, hope your weather's great:wizard:

Thanks for the input! I think we'll be packing out slickers, they are flannel lined and are decently warm but would keep us dry in the rain. We're used to much colder temps here in NY, so I think with those & some gloves/mittens/caps we'll be all set if there is a cold snap.

keisha-glad you didn't experience much rain, you meant MVMCP, right?

I just didn't give a second thought to the rain aspect, but I'm added the slickers to my December list!

yep, I did mean MVMCP - afraid I'm fixated with upcoming trip, our 1st MNSSHP:teeth: hope it's as much fun as the Xmas party.

I went 7 straight years in early December from 1998 to 2004. Some years I wore shorts the whole time (during the day), some years not at all, some years a combination. One year, 2002 I think, we had 24 hours of straight rain twice, it was terrible. I don't think there was much rain the other years. Keep a close watch on the forecast. Some years we brought a winter coat and gloves for evenings, other years a jacket was fine.
