Early May 2021 or early December 2021?

Hi everyone! Just thought I’d reach out for your opinions for our next trip in 2021. We’ve done early December 4 times and love it. Low points, Christmas decor, just great!

However, my kids love swimming and as we live in New England my kids basically don’t get to swim from October-June. This last early December trip they only got to swim once or twice cause it was chilly, so I’m thinking of picking a different time of year to go. First week of May seems low point still (will be booking 2br CCV), and warmer so my kids would be able to swim every day. They’re early risers so we’d be rope drop-midday park people with afternoons/evenings at hotel. Early May points are a touch higher than early December, we’d have to reduce our trip from 5 nights to 4 in early May. 2br is smallest accommodations we can book as my parents are coming with us next trip. Any thoughts which month?! Thanks!

Any chance of going in those first two weeks of September that will be the lowest cost weeks of the year starting n 2021? If not, then May it is if swimming is the desire!

Just thought of something more - the WDW 50th anniversary celebrations will be in full swing by December 2021 (the actual anniversary is October 1) but when in 2021 they’ll begin is uncertain right now. If participation in any special events would be important too, that leans toward December.

I don’t know if we can handle the heat and humidity in early September lol! From what I understand early May is a little less muggy and hot?!

I am interested in 50th but it’s not a dealbreaker if I miss the events. I think what *is* a dealbreaker is if things are still closed for refurbishment/construction in anticipation for 50th. I’ll have to review timeline of those projects!

May is better regarding heat & humidity. December is better than both May or September, but as you know may or may not be swimming weather.

The first post of this thread from the News & Rumors board might be helpful: https://www.disboards.com/threads/m...rldwide-read-post-1-updated-12-10-19.3475627/.

May until 2021 is in dream season and effective 2021, it will be in a season that is somewhat lower in points and between what is currently choice and dream season, while the Oct to Nov time is being moved up higher to that new season. It is one of the times we have often gone.

For a number of years, first two weeks of May have actually had higher DVC demand than most of the spring break period through April and a large portion of summer mainly because (a) it has had lower point costs than those times, (b) it is actually a good time to go weather-wise, often mid-80s, and not as humid, and not as stifling at night, as the summer time, (c) it is Flower/Garden time at Epcot; and (d) though the parks are crowded, it is still manageable. The first week of May also has had a Moonlight Magic night -- at Epcot in 2020. I suspect with the point changes demand for that time will increase so getting something at 7 months at a near park resort will likely become more difficult than it is now, but if you get early May you should be fine with it and have that swimming time for the kids. Just note that you may want to avoid the last half of May. What we have found in the past is that is often the transition period for the weather -- far more humidity just shows up, temperatures rise, and the nights become more uncomfortable.

I did notice that the first week of May is lower points in 2021! It wouldn’t be that many more points than our usual early December trip. I have no problem booking right at the 11m window and staying at our home resort (CCV), so if demand goes up for May I think we’ll still be okay. We’ve never made a moonlight magic that would be exciting if they have one during that time! After speaking with the fam we are def learning more towards first week of May 2021:-)

I typically go to Flower and Garden, and think early May is a lovely time. That’s when we’re going next year, this year we went early April.

Just a FYI-early part of May is Cheer Summit so there will be a lot of teams there.

Early May but there is a bump in attendance over mother’s day.

Have you considered the end of April (week or two after Easter)? It’s a great time to visit.

So in 2021 Easter is in early april...so late April could work! Would love bugs be better last week of April versus early May? Hubs just brought those up to my attention and is a little unsure about love bugs and them scaring our littles. We’re used to horse flies and ticks which bite but swarms of anything would prob scare our preschoolers lol

Love bugs’ scary factor is decidedly over-rated IMO. If anything my brood think they were fascinating lol. Might be a good idea to mention the possibility ahead of time, perhaps make it more of a love buy scavenger hunt :)

Unlike dangerous ticks and horse fly bites that you sure can feel, they are nuisance more than anything. Always glad when we do encounter them I don’t have to scrape them off the rental car, yuck

Haven’t encountered them in April, May but just briefly. Our fall trips are another matter. Does seem as though the last few years they were scant or we happened to miss their peak.
