First time parent here. I booked flights for our September trip this morning and didn’t have many options as far as morning flights. We ended up booking a 5am flight 😬

We have a one year old (will be 18 moon September) who generally sleeps until 7am, for this flight we would have to leave at 2:30. She is a very easy and adaptable kiddo, handles change incredibly well. Our hope is she passes out on the flight but we know we can’t count on that. Are we crazy? Anyone had success with an early flight like this?

She will probably handle it better than you will. We prefer early morning flights with little ones. A little running around in the terminal before the flight, then they usually settle in to sleep on the flight.

Thank you! I think that’s what I needed to hear. We’re bringing the car seat too in hopes that will help her be more comfortable.

been years since mine were that age but be prepared for her to wait to fall asleep until just before landing. good idea on bringing and using her carseat

We take early outbound flights too. We keep them in their pjs and change at the airport. We don’t do much on arrival day besides settle in, swim, dinner and then bed. Those flights always seem like a good idea until the alarm goes off 😋

While our last trip saw us take a late flight, my family has historically preferred the earliest possible departures. Something that we have done, if your budget allows, is to stay at a hotel near the airport the night prior so that you can get a little more sleep. It does obviously increase the overall cost of the trip but when the hotel has a shuttle to the airport and you don't have to drive an hour to get there, that time adds up. FWIW.

Thankfully we only live about 30 minutes from the airport, so not much of a drive 🙂 And there shouldn’t really be any traffic that early.
