early entry for partner hotels

This may be in the wrong forum, but I was wondering about the early entry for the partner hotels. Do you have to book thru Universal to get the early entry or can you book directly thru hotel? I am looking at the Holiday inn express. Thanks

My understanding was it needed to be booked as a package through Universal

Yes, you need to book it as a package through the Universal website. The package must include tickets.
