We're scheduled to arrive at FW the Sat after Thanksgiving, but I've pinned all of my hopes (and dining reservations) on the possibility that there will be an opening for that Friday and that we'll be in the parks on Saturday. As of right now they're all booked up. My question is this: If we go ahead and arrive on Friday afternoon, what are our options for boondocking down there? I've seen many campers waiting in the lot for a site to be prepared, but I'm thinking that they might frown on us waiting there for 18 hours.

I personnaly would not take the chance on that, if they start letting someone do that then everyone will start. I know they let you wait for a spot after check in but not overnight..

Disney almost always has a few spaces for those who just decide to drive up. And there will be those who will have a change and cancel so there is a CHANCE they will have a spot for you. That being said, you need a plan B for Fri.! If you get there early on Sat. you can check in , go to the parks and set up later when you are done and your spot is ready and everyone who is leaving that day is gone so less traffic! We just hop a bus if we can't take our tow vehicle with us. We don't take the TT to the parks and park it out in their lots and walk in! There have been other who have done that and come back to find someone has tried to break in and damaged their rig!

There are some campgrounds close by where you can spend Friday night and get to the fort early Saturday morning.

You don't say where you live or how long the drive would be but keep calling and checking especially the week before thanksgiving (when the 5-day cancellation window comes into play for folks). You might score that friday at the last minute so maybe you should be packed and ready to go just in case.

I hope it works out for you!

It is a gamble.
Probably wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that it is the end of Thanksgiving weekend.
I would definitely have an alternative plan.
Dont't forget that you can't overnite at the Walmarts in the Orlando area.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice! We'll be driving down from Birmingham (about 11 hours, I'm guessing) on Friday. I'll keep checking for an opening, but we'll probably just go ahead and plan to drive in on Friday and find a campground fairly nearby for that night. Then we'll be up and ready to go early on Saturday!

Hello from the 'ham again!

To be clear, boon docking is not permitted at the fort if you arrive on friday and no space is available. Walmarts and the like in central florida do not permit it as luckycharm said. orange County's finest will knock on your rv door if you try. Wdw security will not let you stay in the fort overflow lot.

You need to have a ressie soemplace for a plan b to be sure.

If you are an Elk, Sanford which is only about 40 miles from Disney has RV parking for Elk members only. Kissimmee Elks cannot allow it due to zoning laws. Elks in most cities accommodate RVers traveling. We have looked into a few places on our trip from Maine to Disney in 3 days!:yay:

The Sanford Elks does allow parking for Elks members however they do not have any hookups.
