What sandwiches would carry best (and taste best). I was thinking about going there to get sandwiches for the plane/airport. I'm thinking we would be eating them 3-4 hours after buying them.

I'm looking to avoid a mushy mess. Thanks.

thats so funny because i love earls-- and i crave them!! my DH just said the other day he is getting me a few before we go home:) LOL!! i would think maybe anything with harder meat such as a BLT, salami, cappicola, pepperoni would stay well-- i am not sure if they can do this but i wonder if they can but the veggies and dressing on the side? Then it might not be as soggy-- this past fall i got the veggies sub-- but i think that would be soggy for sure-- maybe the all american might be ok with dressing on the side? Oh my they are all so good!! I wish we had a earls in PENNSYLVANIA!!!

We are thinking of hitting Earls for our trip home, packing the sandwiches in our cooler for our long drive back. I was wondering if they can keep the sandwiches cold instead of heating them (they say "hot sandwiches" on the menu) and putting the dressings/condiments on the side. There is nothing worse than a soggy sandwich with wilted veggies!

Hi! This is a funny post!

I was there in January for the wknd with my best friend... and my husband LOVES Earl. So on our getaway day, I bought him his fave (The Full Montague, I think is the name) and packed it in my carry on and brought it back to Philly with me! He ate it that night and LOVED it.
I just asked for the mustard on the side!

:-)

I am sure they can prob keep them cool and not heat them-- i wish i could take back a stock supply of earls sandwhichs!! LOL thank god i only have a two hour flight, !!! LOL

I've never been to earl's, although I always have the urge to go in and see if I can get food for free. "The Earl of Sandwhich" is my distant relative on my dad's side. My grandmothers madien name is Montague.

This isn't a bad Idea though! We have a late flight out, staying at OKW A short trip over to DDT to pick up some food for the flight home is do-able.

I wouldn't get the mayo/dressing on the side though, unless you are able to put it in your gallon baggie. Oddly enough they are concidered liquid, but its fine if its already on the sandwhich.

I never thought of that for those who are flying! Good point! We're driving this trip, so "on the side" would work for us!

Another Pennsylvania family getting it to go and packing it in the cooler for the ride home!! I keep trying to convince my DF John to open up a franchise..he said..no! Just do dressings or watery items such as tomatoes on the side and you should be good!

I am planning on getting Earl for our drive home! I almost took a sub on the plane last year except we had to rush from DTD to our resort due to DS getting sick.

We did this for the drive home several years ago, and I think the Hawaiian held up pretty well, but the Full Montague was soggy and inedible. And we didn't wait 3-4 hours after purchase, it was only 1-1/2 to 2 hours at most. We were so disappointed, especially since we didn't order the Full Montague, we ordered the Florentine Chicken - the kid at the register must have hit the wrong button.

Good luck, I hope yours hold up better!:goodvibes

A few years ago while my dad and I were at Downtown Disney my mom asked us to bring her back The Florentine sandwich and it held up fine.

Thanks for the idea of the dressing on the side. I really wanted the American but was worried it would be soggy. Maybe I will ask for the tomato on the side too or at least make sure it is not next to the bread.

Mmmmmm I can't wait only 5+ months to go LOL.

I've brought home several already-heated and fully 'dressed' BLTs and had them, cold, into the following week.

who and what is a earl of sandwich ?

The earl of sandwich is my great great great uncle

As legend has it, my great great great uncle john, was in a great game of poker (us montague's love to gamble still to this present day, you can find us in atlantic city on any given weekend). and he didn't want to stop playing, so he had his housekeeper bring him his meal in-between two slices of bread...thus inventing the sandwich!

If anyone wants to really impress the people cashiering when ordering the full montague. It's pronounced MON-TOG and not Mont-a -gue. It's the Irish Pronunciation. Mont-a-gue was made popular with Romeo and Juliet and it pretty much stuck.

I have taken the BLT and the Caprese back to the room or on the road to eat later and both held up well. :goodvibes

I  Earl of Sandwich and can't wait to eat there on our next trip.
