Earl of Sandwich Review

We ate there for the first time in Dec. Can't remember what sandwiches we had, but they were very, very yummy! Can't wait to go back in Feb. The lines were exceptionally long when we arrived. I was reluctant to stand and wait, but they moved pretty fast.

DH had the meatball sandwich and I had the Italian, we shared them and liked them alot...the potato salad was horrible, the day we went it was raining hard so the place was very busy. All the customers were in great moods and were sharing tables with one another....

We just loved the place, we even went back 2 times in 3 days ! It was so good. Sorry your experance wasn't good, but you cant please everyone. I guess every restaurant is allowed 1 bad day. I didnt like Big River the first time, but I really enjoy the place now.

We eat there quite often and always enjoy the meals. Have always found the employees very helpful. It is always busy but our tables have always been clean.

We didnt like it either. My husband took one look at the menu and said he'd order later. It was good the line was so long because it took me forever to figure out how to order so that the kids and I could eat. Yet we still didnt like it. I hate to use the word adventurous I dont want people to get the wrong opinion but we just aren't adventurous with our sandwhiches. I do not like heated sandwhiches and was told that with what I wanted I had no choice but to have it heated. We really like very simple plain white bread or sour dough roll, turkey lettuce tomato swiss cheese for me american for the kids. I had been so looking forward to the place after the reviews and was so disappointed. I thiink probably for people who like that kind of thing it is great but just wasnt the kind of place for my family.

The day we went it seemed like no one was in charge. No manager or "adult." The workers all seemed very young (to me! ;) ) and no one was moving very fast or in a motivated fashion. They all seemed to be kind of sleep walking.

All the mostly satisfied diners (like all you lucky posters!) is what persuaded us to try it in the first place! There was an Earl of Sandwich down in Hilton Head. I'm sorry we didn't get to try that one last summer when we were down for the week.

I thought the menu seemed great. We like a unique sandwich menu since we get the very best grinders (aka subs, hoagies, etc.) which tend to be plain and made to order right here in northwest CT.

Thanks for all your responses so far!

We love Earl of Sandwich and always have to go several times during our week at DW. Good sandwiches, great price. We usually stop back by there on our way home to get one for the road.

We've eaten there twice and thought it great! Tables were clean, service prompt and nice, and food very tasty! The place was packed with the line out the door and it was still very good. We can't wait to go back in June. Sorry you hit them on a bad night.

I've been to Earl at least a couple of dozen times now - and haven't had a real bad experience yet (I did have one mediocre manager type, and a couple of iffy times where a smoothie sat for a few minutes while I was standing there), but they are generally consistently excellent on most days I visit. (I will be there again tomorrow). IMHO, it is one of the best values on property - and the food is high-quality. Much higher than most counter service at Disney, definitely!

Oh...and I've never been there when there were many unbussed tables, or that it didn't look very clean in the restaurant.

What a pity about your negative experience ~ Hope this place is not going down hill?

I don't Earl is going downhill, Florence. From the overwhelmingly positive responses, I think that my family hit it on a bad day.

Another positive vote for Earl! I love the All American -- have only tried the Beef & Blue besides that and it was good, but I'll go back to my "usual." Family members have tried the Scudetto and the Frenchie and we all give it a big thumbs up! Yum ......

I know almost everyone on this board loves the EOS. I had read so many wonderful reviews from EOS before our trip that I made it a point to have us eat there one evening. We must be of the minority, because we did not enjoy the EOS. I was really dissapointed that they didn't offer a better variety of soups and sandwhiches. I personally chose to grab something at Roaring Forks in our resort instead of eating EOS...which had a better selection of everything!
